About the Apprenticeship
We are recruiting an enthusiastic Engineering Panel Wireman Apprentice to join our shop-floor production team. This apprenticeship combines practical, hands-on experience with structured training and further education to equip you with the core skills needed for a career in panel wiring and electrical assembly.
You will work alongside experienced panel wiremen and engineers, learning how to accurately and efficiently build and wire control panels, read engineering drawings, and understand the fundamentals of electrical assemblies. You’ll develop both technical and soft skills, including communication and teamwork.
On successful completion of your apprenticeship, you will be well-placed to begin your career as a qualified member of Labtec’s production and engineering team.
Key Responsibilities
Throughout your apprenticeship you will learn to:
Assemble and wire electrical control panels and enclosures to engineering drawings and specifications.
Prepare, crimp, terminate, and loom wires neatly and accurately.
Fit electrical components including switches, relays, connectors, terminals and harnesses.
Read and interpret schematic diagrams, bills of materials, and wiring layouts.
Work safely and professionally in a busy shop-floor environment.
Take part in quality checks and testing procedures to ensure finished panels meet specification.
Training:
Workplace-based learning with experienced panel builders.
Off-the-job training and classroom learning with an approved training provider.
Development of both electrical and practical skills as well as workplace skills such as communication, problem-solving, and health & safety awareness.
Study towards the appropriate apprenticeship standard for an electrical panel wiring / engineering manufacturing technician.
Training Outcome:By the end of this apprenticeship you will have:
Strong practical experience wiring and assembling electrical panels.
A recognised apprenticeship qualification in engineering / electrical panel wiring.

Employer Description:EMC Compliance
Labtec are aware of their responsibilities in this area, all efforts are made to ensure that the components used in panel construction are compatible with the EMC Directives. All of our control panels are manufactured within their limitations and a Technical Construction Files is produced for each project to ensure compatibility and trace ability.
Drawing and Design Services
In addition to the preparation of Wiring and layout drawings for products in manufacture, Labtec are able to offer a design / drafting service based on AutoCAD (Release 13 or Release 14). This can be tailored to accommodate differences in presentation.
PLC Programming
Labtec can provide design and programming of any type of PLC based process from single pump control, to complete systems for sewage works. As a member of the Centres team, you will portray a professional image of SOAR and the Centres Team, ensuring the buildings and facilities run smoothly. The role will include some key tasks, with the opportunity to take on more responsibility as you develop into the role:
Reception:
Meet and greet visitors, tenants and building users in a welcoming and professional manner, whilst being sensitive to their needs and requirements
Take phone calls and enquiries both internally and externally
Reception services, such as printing, scanning and photocopying for tenants and the public, logging chargeable services and taking payments
Keep communal and public areas tidy and welcoming
Centre Co-ordination & Admin:
Assist with opening up and locking up if required
Assist with data input including room bookings, issues & action logs, contact details etc.
Assist with maintaining tenant and building information, by way of scanning and filing of records
Team Working:
To work flexibly across sites - The Centres team operates a rota, ensuring that we have cover for all Centres as required
