GENERAL ADMINISTRATION:
Providing professional, efficient and effective administrative support to a range of Young Somerset business functions including data input, minute-taking and premises/health and safety
Coordinating a range of routine and ad-hoc activities which ensure the smooth-running business operations of Young Somerset
Follow up on enquiries using the most appropriate method e.g. MS Teams, phone, email etc.

Shadowing experienced staff members to learn administrative systems, customer service standards, and internal processes
Completing tasks and projects related to your apprenticeship learning objectives, such as reflective logs, project work, or skills development
Attending college workshops or sessions and dedicating time during the working week to complete coursework and off-the-job training activities
Training:You will be required to attend the City Hub campus one Monday per month to join other apprentices in lesson. During this session, you’ll be set coursework to complete over the following month, which will then be marked, and feedback will be provided.
In addition, you will have one-to-one sessions every 4–6 weeks via Microsoft Teams, where progress will be reviewed and tasks set by your assessor in collaboration with your employer.

Your main responsibilities will include:
Support the Science Technician and Department
Prepare resources and assemble apparatus
Prepare and provide equipment and resources for lessons, ensuring teaching areas and equipment are well maintained and organised
Assist the Head of Science in maintaining an up-to-date inventory for the departments equipment and manage this effectively to ensure all equipment is ready and available to use
Construct and modify apparatus
Give technical and health & safety advice to teachers, technicians and students
Carry out risk assessments for technician activities with the Head of Science
Assist in practical classes and carry out demonstrations, providing appropriate advice
Keep up to date with health & safety requirements and with developments in practical science e.g. attending courses and reading publications
Disposal of waste materials
Check fume cupboards, pressure vessels and first-aid kits; carrying out electrical and other safety checks; etc.
Organise, store and check the condition of chemicals and equipment
Attend department meetings
Set up and care for plant and animal collections
Prepare standard solutions, purify chemicals, treat waste
Check stock, prepare orders and keep stock records
Maintain resources
Collect, check and return equipment to stores
General laboratory cleaning of bench surfaces sinks and fixed equipment, general cleaning and repair of equipment
Support in other departments as and when requested to
Support with displays
Preparation of materials and visual resources for lessons
Training:You will undertake a Level 3 Laboratory Technician Apprenticeship with an Ofsted rated 'Outstanding' training provider, CSR Scientific Training, which will include:
Fully recognised apprenticeship qualification - Level 3 Laboratory Technician
On-the-job competency training
Theoretical knowledge - BTEC Level 3 Applied Science (if required)
The majority of your learning will be completed online once a week with some face-to-face practical sessions/exams in Birmingham (if BTEC is included).

Job role:
· To develop, optimise and improve manufacturing processes to enhance productivity, quality and safety.
· Identify and implement process improvements to reduce costs, minimise waste and increase efficiency.
· Work with other teams in the business, such as engineering, manufacturing, health and safety, stock control and marketing to ensure smooth integration of new processes, products, technologies and equipment.
· To create and maintain any documentation that supports manufacturing processes.
Role responsibilities:
· Conduct analyses of current process cycle times and output. Use this study to highlight areas of potential improvement.
· Look into manufacturing process flows to highlight areas of waste. Using tools such as Auto CAD, design and improve factory layouts to achieve optimum processes.
· Use the current scrap and remedial records to analyse process quality performances and react to any increases or any potential process improvements. Use root cause analysis tools to identify causes.
· Create and maintain production documentation, such as SOPs. Continually making sure that they are up to date and valid.
· Be involved in creating specifications for acquiring new machinery and equipment to ensure fit for purpose.
· Provide technical support on processes and equipment for other teams.
· Work with the engineering teams to make sure machinery meets required OEE levels to maintain process outputs.
· Work alongside the Health and safety team to ensure all processes are delivered safely and continually strive to reduce risks of processes.
· Be aware of new technologies to support the running of manufacturing processes such as automated counters, cameras, sensors etc.
