The Role
The legal team is an integral part of the UK operation and there now exists an opportunity for a talented, confident and capable real estate solicitor to oversee a range of complex, challenging and innovative projects in process. You will be at the forefront of some incredible high profile initiatives and will work closely with the business and the legal team together with the wider global legal community.
Reporting directly to the UK Head of Legal, Regulatory and Compliance, day to day you’ll advise on a wide range of energy property matters, including acquisitions, disposals, leasing and development projects, draft and negotiate complex contracts and agreements and identify and proactively managing legal risk within the business.

You’ll be joining National Gas Services, a specialised unit relied on by the UK and other gas companies in the event of pressure gas emergencies. This makes it a really varied role, and means you’ll get the opportunity to frequently travel across the UK and Ireland.
During this three-year apprenticeship, you’ll develop as a skilled pipe welder. You’ll learn how to:
Weld tubes and pipes to a high standard, using a minimum of two manual arc welding processes
Identification and the causes of typical welding defects and how their occurrence can be reduced
Welding quality documentation, organisational reporting systems, procedures and their role within the overall quality process
Health and Safety in the engineering sector

We’ll work closely with your college to review your progress at regular intervals, providing feedback and guiding your development. You’ll have a tailored, personalised plan that ensures you have appropriate support and training. The majority of your learning will be on the job, with off-the-job training and one-to-one tutoring. Your apprenticeship will end with the completion of a dissertation and an End Point Assessment.Training:Year One
During term time in your first year, you'll spend a lot of your working week away from Hitchin, studying at Ofsted ‘outstanding’ Riverside College Widnes (in between Liverpool and Manchester). You'll stay over and study during the week to learn the foundations of the trade, with all travel and accommodation expenses covered by National Gas. This means you'll need to be comfortable, and excited by, the idea of living and working away.
Year Two and Three
In your second and third year, you’ll spend one day a week during term time, released for college. Responsibilities Develop, implement and test solutions to provide visibility and control of the plant’s electrical infrastructureDeliver solutions to enhance plant control capability and support the delivery of grid regulation requirementsReview technical documentation for new plants (i.e. wind, solar PV, BESS) ensuring that operational requirements are captured in EPC and supply agreementsManage regular maintenance of the plant’s I&C equipmentTroubleshoot/repair defective equipment, utilising and managing contractors where requiredSupport maintenance and troubleshooting of SCADA data interfacesSupport Grid Code compliance through monitoring and maintenance of critical control systems, interfaces, and TSO/DSO data provision systemsEnsure compliance with cybersecurity standards by regularly assessing I&C systems for vulnerabilities, applying security updates or implementing remediation measures Requirements Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Electronic or Automation and Control)Ability to interpret/understand available information to make effective and efficient decisions.Be able to identify solutions to concerns and challenges that ariseHave effective internal and external communication and interpersonal skills.Expert knowledge of PLC operation, programming and management (Schneider and Rockwell)Expert knowledge of a broad range of communication protocols used in Industrial Systems (OPC DA/UA, Modbus, IEC60870-5-104, IEC61850)Able to manage 3rd party service contractsProficient in creating technical documentationBasic understanding of electrical schematics (single and multi-line diagrams)Basic understanding of IT/OT networksKnowledge of PLC operation, programming and management (Omron and Siemens)Knowledge of other communication protocols (MQTT, DNP3, Omron Fins etc.)Knowledge of renewable energy SCADA systemsAt least 5 years’ experience in designing, implementing, and deploying I&C systemsExperience integrating I&C data with SCADA systems, databases, and other platformsTrack record of I&C projects, including planning, execution, and documentation Location: Remote, plus frequent site travel across UK.
