During your period of training, you will learn how to install, service and repair breakdowns of Mazak CNC Machines.
Learning how to diagnose faults, check machine alignments and change electrical drives, motors and encoders.
This is a field-based role for the Midlands area of England.
Once trained, you will be visiting customers; while living in the Midlands, you should expect to be staying away from home, depending on the distance to the customer's premises.
Whilst completing your apprenticeship, you will be required to spend your 2nd year at our state-of-the-art production facility, our European Head Quaters in Worcester.
Training:Formal training is delivered at HWGTA, located in Worcester (WR4 9GN).
Duration approximately 40-45 months.
Year 1, between 22-39 weeks are spent at HWGTA Training Centre developing practical engineering skills, alongside one day per week in the classroom, completing the theoretical elements of the EAL Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering.Year 2, predominantly based in your company, returning to the Training Centre one day per week to continue and complete the specialised elements of their Level 3 Diploma (Development Knowledge).

Based full-time in your company, developing practical skills and knowledge in preparation for the End Point Assessment to gain your Mechatronics Maintenance Technician Level 3.Training Outcome:

This role will have placements across London in the 2nd year of the programme with Old Oak Common being the main base
Operate at an appropriate level carrying out designated tasks within the team assigned
Become trained and competent in carrying out daily and safety exams on all stable traction Bi mode EMU’s
Carry out general depot duties e.g.: Line of Routes
Provide technical support to the depot teams in the provision of primary fault finding/reporting
Provide basic maintenance competency e.g.: side skirt cleans, brake pads, block changes etc.
Carry out depot cleaning/general housekeeping
Driving company vehicles if certified
Crane driving and lifting equipment and training as required
Provide corrective maintenance (Electrical or Mechanical)
Provide preventative maintenance (Electrical or Mechanical)
Provide secondary fault finding
Positioning of fault data into shared drive facility
Carry out Testing & Re-commissioning activities on vehicles and trains in accordance with pre-written test and commissioning procedures
Investigate technical problems as instructed by central systems support team
Functionally test train borne systems with minimal supervision using a variety of techniques and methods, including the use of computer-based diagnostics systems
Training:
Training will take place on block release at College
Mandatory and role specific training will take place at the depot
You will complete the Rail Engineering Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship standard which will includes and knowledge and a competency qualification

On successful completion of the Apprenticeship subject to business need we would expect to put you into your first role

Complete a prescribed programme of training to be conducted within the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory
Work under the mentorship and support of your team
Work safely and in line with established safety measures in the laboratory on a day-to-day basis
Prepare assemblies using novel techniques and processes with materials such as Tantalum and Tungsten
Monitor running systems including water cooling, ventilation, gas handling and vacuum systems
Work on engineering projects including accurate machining and precision fitting with specialised techniques and high-tech equipment
Monitor and be trained on cryogenic systems, remote handling, lifting operations, complicated assemblies, water systems, and gas systems
Be trained to work and operate equipment in a safe manner to different standards
Learn how to design and manufacture components and assemblies
Learn how to manufacture target components using manual and CNC machines
Follow procedures and risk assessments with supervision
Training:Year 1: You will be based at the Oxfordshire Advanced Skills (OAS), Culham rotating through blocks of 4-6 weeks in duration. This will be supplemented with training relevant to STFC and giving a broad engineering foundation, delivered by STFC staff, in conjunction with UKAEA, at the OAS site in Culham.
Year 2: You will be based at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (RAL) with training in 4–6-week blocks at Oxfordshire Advanced Skills (OAS) at Culham across the year.
Years 3-4: You will be fully in the workplace where you will further hone your skills to become a Target Operations Technician.
You will be required to attend OAS as required as part of your training; you must therefore be willing and able to travel independently. Excess travel costs will be covered. Training Outcome:
