Precision tooling components
All work is produced to strict aerospace standards, requiring high levels of accuracy, technical understanding and attention to detail. Training:Training will be delivered in partnership with Rochdale Training Association (RTA).
You will complete the Machining Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship.
During your apprenticeship you will:
Develop core machining skills in CNC and manual operations
Learn advanced programming using CAD/CAM systems
Gain experience working to aerospace quality standards
Rotate across workshop departments to build a full understanding of production processes
Produce a complete electric motor assembly and its constituent components from scratch to gain a holistic understanding of the business
Subject to performance and attainment, progression to Level 4 engineering qualifications and beyond may be fully funded and supported by NEMA. Training Outcome:Upon successful completion, apprentices may:
Secure a permanent role within the precision machining department
Progress to Level 4 engineering qualifications (fully funded)
Develop into CNC programmer, senior machinist or specialist tooling roles

Duties will include:
As an apprentice with Axis Electronics you will be given the opportunity to move around the company, working in various areas of the business staying with each department for six months at a time under the supervision of experienced colleagues, combining on-the-job training with structured learning
You will be sorting and inspecting components before they are used in assembly, checking for defects or missing parts to ensure everything is ready for production
Assemble mechanical parts and systems using tools and equipment, following technical drawings and instructions to ensure accuracy
You will be working with Surface Mount Technology (SMT), loading and operating machines that place tiny electronic components onto circuit boards, ensuring components are placed correctly for the next step in assembly
Operating Flow Solder Machines:
As well as soldering by hand to repair or adjust components that may need more precise soldering
Supporting Production Engineering to help improve manufacturing processes to make them faster, cheaper, and more reliable
Troubleshoot any issues during production and suggest improvements
To perform electrical and functional tests on finished products to make sure they work as expected
Record test results and report any issues to the team for further action
Track and organise materials and parts needed for production, ensuring the right items are available at the right time to keep production flowing smoothly
Assisting with Goods in and Goods out, receiving raw materials (Goods In) and check them for quality before storing them. As well as packing and sending out finished products (Goods Out), making sure they are correctly labelled and meet all standards

We make more than 100 different high-tech actuation system components for the 737, from raw materials sourced in the UK. These components are used on the trailing edge of the wings.
Trailing edge actuation systems are responsible for extending and retracting the wing’s flaps during different phases of flight. The flaps add lift to enable take-off and landing at lower speeds, and provide drag to help slow the aircraft. Working under supervision, the apprentice would be involved in a range of routine plant maintenance and fault-finding activities across the site, including:
Pumps
Air compressors
Fans
Drives
Motors
Pneumatic controls
Pressurisation units systems
Electrical circuits associated with equipment
Weekly / Ongoing Responsibilities:
Attending safety briefings and inductions
Completing apprenticeship coursework, assessments, and off-the-job training (typically one day per week at college)
Maintaining a site diary or logbook to evidence competency development
Participating in planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedules alongside experienced operatives
Supporting emergency reactive works when issues arise on site
Power Station Specific Considerations:
You'll be working within a highly regulated, safety-critical environment with strict permit-to-work systems
Compliance with environmental regulations is very important
Security clearance requirements and site access protocols must be followed (full guidance will be given pre-interview stage)
Training:
As well as guided on-the-job training specific to our organisation, you will study towards your level 3 Engineering Maintenance Technician apprenticeship. You will attend college on a day release during term time only
A tutor will be assigned to you, and you will receive protected study time within the workplace
You will also get support from our apprenticeship team through mentoring and buddying

Support the SHE department with the creation, delivery and monitoring of SHE plans which underpin the SHE strategy and supports the achievement of our operational objectives
Be a key participant in the SHE Support Team by participating in the development of the management system and participate in projects to improve the level of its effectiveness
Build and develop effective, collaborative working relationships with the operational leadership and managements teams in order to positively influence their SHE capabilities
Work with the operational leadership and management teams to improve our safety culture, and to develop a motivational and rewarding working environment that will facilitate the achievement of business objectives and company values
Champion the use of the SHE management system throughout the company and ensure the quality of information contained is as required
Ensure the delivery of the company’s SHE KPIs and report monthly on progress. Where areas of non-conformance or areas for improvement are identified ensure that these are raised and escalated as necessary to gain compliance and improvement
Drive the delivery of SHE excellence across the operational areas they are responsible for: Support other Advisors in monitoring SHE compliance levels and fostering the relationship between the operational teams and the SHE team to ensure continuous improvement and regular reviews of contract and external customer’s needs
Support and encourage positive employee engagement and communication processes at all levels. Build constructive working relationships with client and union representatives as required

Training:Alongside your duties, you will also be completing a Level 3 Safety, Health and Environmental Technician apprenticeship standard with Penshaw View. All training sessions will be delivered remotely.
