This is a largely laboratory-based position in which you will work alongside experienced scientists to design, execute and evaluate novel experimental methodologies. You will be responsible for planning and performing novel experiments, sometimes with senior scientist and sometimes independently, so a good understanding of scientific fundamentals is vital for this role. You will also be responsible for producing formulations, coating materials, and performing characterisation for novel devices. Data is an important part of any business and so another key part of this role will be to compile, log, and analyse experimental data, which will ultimately help shape the R&D programme.
The company are looking for a junior scientist that has practical experience within an academic of industrial lab setting, coupled with a degree in physics, chemistry or materials science. Any experience gained within a cleanroom setting would be highly advantageous to your application, as would familiarity with metrology systems and fabrication equipment.

The Test Engineer will join a Systems Engineering team critical in space thruster engine development. You will work on a complex, multifaceted rocket engine system comprised of numerous newly developed and integrated components. In your first year, you will work as part of the Discovery Research Platform (DRP) computational team, which supports collaborative research across the Institute and its core facilities. You will rotate with the three senior DRP researchers, gaining experience in a variety of computational biology skills and techniques including next-generation sequencing analysis, single-cell transcriptomics analysis, advanced image analysis, spatial transcriptomics analysis, and statistical modelling of population dynamics.
As your training progresses, you will then undertake long term research project(s) under the supervision of one or more DRP members. This will involve carrying out independent computational work and contributing to biomedical research.
Your daily responsibilities will be to:
Analyse biological datasets with guidance from senior colleagues, helping to evaluate results and carry out computational analyses
Learn and apply methods for analysing spatial and single-cell transcriptomics data as well as imaging data
Support the development and use of quantitative models for population dynamics, lineage tracing, and trajectory analysis
Actively develop technical and scientific skills, showing willingness to learn new computational and statistical methods
Identify issues in data or analysis workflows and apply appropriate quantitative or computational methods, with support, to help resolve them
Carry out exploratory data analysis and basic hypothesis-driven statistical tests to help extract insight from large biological datasets
Communicate analysis steps and results clearly in written summaries and presentations, working with multidisciplinary research teams

The primary result expected from the R&D Director - Aerosols, Specialty Coatings & Cleaners will be to oversee an entire R&D group and manage discovery, innovation, scale up, and commercialization of existing and new cost effective quality technology by planning, directing, coordinating, and/or budgeting activities concerned with the design and completion of research and development projects, managing staff activities and results to quickly respond to market opportunities, and defending the corporation against competitive threats.

Plan laboratory experiments to confirm feasibility of processes and techniques used in the production of materials having unique characteristics.
Confer with customers to determine how to tailor materials to their needs.
