The Technical Support Technician will gather information and data from a range of sources and analyse the information/data. The apprentice will be able to problem-solve in accordance with AS13000 and produce and/or update technical documentation, reports or specifications covering areas such as quality, production or other technical documentation that informs others, either internally or externally, about what needs to be done, such as how a product must be manufactured, tested, modified, maintained, stored, transported.
In their daily work, there will be interaction with their line manager to confirm departmental programmes of work and to agree individual responsibilities. This in turn will align with an overarching company resource and delivery plan. The role will entail working with engineering and/or manufacturing teams at an operational level, such as with Manufacturing Engineers and/or management level. You will also be liaising with internal colleagues. You will also be responsible for working directly with customers and/or suppliers or with representatives from appropriate regulatory bodies. Typically, this would involve interaction with auditors to demonstrate compliance to specific organisational or regulatory requirements (such as Civil Aviation Authority) Certification Bodies such as BSI for compliance to the companies' Quality Management systems.
The role will have responsibility in conjunction with Production and Quality Managers for the quality, safety and delivery of the manufactured product or service, ensuring it is delivered to the customer on time at the agreed cost. They will typically report to an engineering or manufacturing manager as part of a cross-functional team. The size of this team and responsibilities will vary depending on the size of the employer. Although working within defined quality processes and procedures. The use of a range of tools and techniques to support decision-making and solve problems that are often complex and non-routine. Also, they have a responsibility to identify and contribute to making improvements such as business processes, procedures, and methods of working.

Dispose of waste materials in a safe, hygienic & environmentally conscious manner.
Always wear the correct PPE including safety glasses, safety shoes/boots and appropriate gloves & face mask when handling such items as: sharp materials, swarf, chemicals, oils.
Ensure machines and surrounding areas are free from hazards such as swarf, oils, coolant, obstructions etc. during and after maintenance activities.

The Apprentice will be working towards the Level 3 Engineering and Manufacturing Support Technician Apprenticeship Standard.
Qualifications include the EAL Level 3 Diploma in Engineering and manufacturing support technologies.
College attendance will be at Colchester Institute (Colchester Campus) one day per week.

Based in Hockley, Birmingham, the company designs, manufactures and assembles precision components, machine tools and associated work-station fixtures for the aerospace, automotive and nuclear industries.

What you will be doing at work?
Conduct safety checks and performance monitoring for machining, associated equipment and surrounding work area

Machine high-quality complex components using a broad range of processes
For example, internal or external thread cutting, slots and pockets, internal or external under cutting. Also profile forms, tapered and eccentric diameters, bored holes, and tee slotsInspect components produced. Adjust the machining equipment or program and tooling to ensure components meet quality requirements
Identify, communicate and report issues affecting machining component quality, quantity and deadlines
Complete machining documentation at all stages of the work activity. For example, standard operational procedures, control documentation and contribution to audits
Maintain and restore the machining work area, performing housekeeping and waste management as appropriate
Ensure tools, unused materials and equipment are returned to a safe, clean and approved condition on completion of machining work
Keep stakeholders for example, customers, colleagues and line managers informed about machining work

The programme lasts for 30-months. The training incorporates underpinning knowledge in partnership and managed by EMTEC Colleges
Throughout the duration of the programme the candidates will be expected to travel to EMTEC's training centre in Nottingham for 24 separate weeks to carry out skills training. The first block is two weeks followed by individual one-week blocks. Residential accommodation will be provided if required for the candidates
Candidates will work towards achieving the Accident Repair Technician Apprenticeship Standard for the Automotive Bodyshop Industry at Level 3. They will also be required to study towards achieving level 2 maths and English functional skills if they do not already hold equivalent qualifications
Regular visits to the dealership from EMTEC Vocational Learning Advisors will take place, who will observe all evidence opportunities that occur naturally in the workplace
Candidates will be expected to engage in self-directed learning outside of normal working hours, which will be monitored and tracked through an online e-portal. In addition to this, as part of the programme the employer is offering additional off the job training to achieve the following qualifications, in order to bring the candidate to the required skills level for Gemini ARC Multiskills Technicians
The following additional qualifications will be included:
British Standard Welding accreditation BS1140 & BS4872 covering the range of .5mm to 2.5mm material (to include IMI AOM009)
MIG brazing, and achieve IMI AOM133
Bonding & Riveting EC842
Refrigerant Handling IMIAL L3
Electric & Hybrid Repair & Maintenance Senior Automotive Technician Accreditation
Training Outcome:
Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, the role holder may progress to full-time employment with the company depending on performance and availability
