Working within a fast-paced production environment, you will be responsible for leading the workshop operation, managing a multidisciplinary team of carpenters, metal fabricators, scenic artists and freelancers, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to the highest standards of quality.

Key Responsibilities:
Lead and manage the day-to-day operations of a busy scenic workshop

Oversee scenic builds from technical drawings through to completion
Work closely with Project Managers, Designers and Production teams to deliver projects on time and within budget
Monitor workshop productivity, labour allocation and material usage
Ensure high standards of quality control across all scenic fabrication projects
Provide technical guidance on construction methods, materials and fabrication techniques
Troubleshoot technical challenges and develop practical build solutions
Oversee workshop equipment, maintenance and safe operation of machinery
Promote a positive Health & Safety culture, ensuring compliance with UK legislation and workshop procedures
Support the ongoing training, mentoring and development of workshop staff
Skills and Requirements:
Proven experience managing a scenic workshop, fabrication workshop or bespoke joinery facility
Strong knowledge of scenic construction, fabrication techniques and workshop manufacturing processes
Ability to interpret technical drawings and oversee accurate build execution
Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously within demanding production schedules
Strong leadership skills with experience managing workshop teams and freelance labour
Good commercial awareness with experience controlling labour, materials and workshop resources
Excellent organisational, communication and problem-solving skills
Strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation, RAMS and safe systems of work

Alongside internal training supplied, the successful candidate will take the International Freight Forwarder Specialist apprenticeship programme that will give them the required knowledge, skills and behaviours to develop a fantastic career within this fast-moving sector.
Trained to be able to work in a demanding office environment and balance conflicting priorities to keep up with progressive deadlines. This will be in a well-rounded but predominantly road freight position.Investigating and planning the most appropriate route for shipments, taking into account the nature of the goods, costs, transit times and security.
Negotiating rates for transportation, shipping and handling costs and thereby quoting clients.
Obtaining, checking and preparing documentation to meet customs and insurance requirements and any packing specifications.
Ensuring trade compliance with other countries’ regulations and fiscal regimes.
Maintaining current knowledge of relevant legislation, political situations and other factors that could affect the movement of freight.
Strong customer focus, with the ability to effectively communicate and approach all situations with a calm and sympathetic manner.
Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers and both internal and external customers.
Provide customers with accurate updates and deal with any customer queries/ complaints that may arise.
Acting as a broker in customs negotiations worldwide to guide the freight efficiently through complex procedures.
Effective utilisation of available resources to maintain customer objectives.
On International movements, wherever possible, using LV’s own offices as a first option or otherwise approved and vetted agents.
Training:You will be assigned your dedicated tutor to guide and support you through this exciting qualifcation, giving you the under piinning knowledge and experience to take the first step into Freight forwarding.

Throughout the apprenticeship, you’ll develop the technical and professional skills needed to contribute to engineering design work with increasing independence.Training:The apprentice will train through a combination of workplace learning and academic study. They will develop practical skills and knowledge by working on real engineering projects with their employer, supported by experienced engineers. This hands-on experience is complemented by structured academic learning.
Delivery at College/Workshop/Classroom:
Year 1: Foundation Degree Level 4 (1 day per week) plus Foundation Competence Level 2 (2–3 days per week) - 3 days total per week
Year 2: Foundation Degree Level 5 (1 day per week)
Years 3 and 4: Top-up degree delivered at Birmingham City University (1 day per week)
Workplace Learning:
Alongside academic study, the apprentice will gain practical experience by working on real engineering projects within the workplace, supported by experienced engineers.
