The apprentice will undergo training on corrugated packaging production, learning about our manufacturing process whilst also being part of our fast-paced production environment.
Main duties will include:
· Learning the process of flexographic printing - what is involved and how it works.
· Learning how to operate machinery.
The duties of a ‘Primary machine number 2 operator’ on the machine will include:
· Preparing everything that is required for the machine to keep going - board, ink, print plates, cutting tools, pallets etc.
· Changing printing plates, cutting tools and inks.
· Setting the machine to run specific jobs (we have circa 5,000 live products).
· Understanding all company quality checks that are undertaken, relating to colour, print layout, product dimensions and board quality.
· Running the machine optimally, making good quality products at or above our target runs speeds and set times.
· General waste, cardboard waste and paper waste is kept tidy around the workstation.Training:Intermediate Apprenticeship Standard for Print Operatives (Level 2)
A full plan will be created at the start of the Apprenticeship to provide information as to what you will be studying and when. Learn2print will deliver the theoretical knowledge for your Print Apprenticeship. You will attend a class each month for one full day at a local venue (this information will be provided on interview) This teaching and training will cover everything from health and safety and general industrial practices to specific industry practices. This will lead you to preparation for your end point assessment, consisting of an online exam, professional discussion and observation in the workplace. You will be allocated a designated tutor and workplace mentor who will support and guide you through the Apprenticeship.
Training Outcome:On completion of the 24-month apprenticeship, the role of a full-time ‘Primary machine number 2 operator’ will be available for the successful candidate.
Looking further ahead, throughout the career of an apprentice, the expectation is to progression through to becoming a Team Leader.
