An Aerospace Engineer Degree Apprenticeship will prepare you for a career within our engineering and design teams, over a four-year programme. Examples of target occupations/functions listed below:
Design Engineering - Design Engineers are involved from the early phases of concept development right through to design, supporting in-service product repairs and upgrades. You will work closely with our customers to provide innovative solutions to a variety of wing related components, sub-assemblies & complex integrated assemblies
Analysis - Analysis Engineers work closely with all engineering functions. Key activities include loadsets, sizing, optimisation, strength, & test reports
Manufacturing Engineering - Manufacturing Engineers operate across the whole business, from product concepts through to design, procurement, manufacturing and end-product support. As a Manufacturing Engineer you will work closely with Design, Engineering, Operations, Procurement, Customers & Suppliers to achieve world class cost, quality & delivery objectives
Training:Year 1: The majority of your first year will be working offsite at college. Towards the end of the first year, you will undertake a return to site induction followed by onsite GKN training.
Years 2 & 3: You will undertake Business Familiarisation, which involves working to a rotation plan in Design, Analysis, Materials & Processes, Component/ Assembly Production, Manufacturing Engineering and Quality. All work carried out within placement areas will be recorded in work packs. These will be reviewed monthly with your GKN Training Advisor. You will return to college/university on day-release to continue studying in the classroom for your degree.
Year 4: You will be assigned to your final placement and will spend the year specialising in this area. You will also finalise your Degree and Level Four Competence Qualification during this time, as well as completion of your End Point Assessment.
Mandatory courses according to the Apprenticeship Standard:
Level 2 Diploma in Aerospace and Aviation (Foundation Competence)
Level 4 Diploma in Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing (Development Competence)
Level 6 Bachelor Honours Degree (BEng) Stipulated by the employer and accredited by an Engineering Council licenced Professional Engineering Institution
Functional Skills Level 2 (GCSE equivalent) in English for those with less than a Grade 4/C

Year 1:
You will undertake your training at the Aircraft Maintenance Academy in Humberside.
You will complete your Level 2 apprenticeship standard.
You will be trained in both practical and theory-based engineering.
You will learn the basics to give you a grounding for completing your placements in engineering.
One day a week at college.
Years 2, 3 and 4:
Most placements will be office/home based using computer based tools with interaction with our customers, suppliers and aircraft.
You will continue with academic studies and learning, this includes completing a HNC in aeronautical engineering which will require 1 day a week at college.
You will complete six placements across various programmes within the Air business.
The six placements will give you the opportunity to gain experience in a variety of engineering areas including design, systems, in-service support, flight test, mission systems and integration.
You will gain experience on all stages of an aircraft lifecycle, giving you a well-rounded skill set and knowledge base.
In the final 6 months you’ll complete an End Point Assessment, where you’ll create a portfolio of tasks that you’ve completed in your role and present them to an assessor to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and behaviours that you’ve developed throughout the scheme.

Working in Project Control means you will be the beating heart of a given project, ensuring that the plans, schedules and risk management is in place for the project. The broad purpose of the occupation is to install, commission, maintain and repair commercial catering equipment, such as combination ovens, fryers, grills and griddles, cooking ranges, dishwashers, microwave ovens etc. Equipment may be gas or electrical and may involve plumbing and electronic controls.
Throughout the duration of the programme, you will be working to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills and qualifications to perform the following duties:
Conduct servicing of commercial catering equipment in line with manufacturers’ specifications and/or legislation
Undertake fault finding and repairs of commercial catering equipment, for example replacing thermostat or pumps; including use of diagnostic equipment
Install and commission a wide range of commercial catering equipment, for example ovens, grills, fryers, dishwashers, water treatment equipment and ancillary equipment e.g., fly killers, water filtration, preparation equipment
Test and undertake quality assurance checks to verify that the commercial catering equipment is working in accordance with its design specification and current regulations including air quality tests
Decommission and remove redundant catering equipment and leave the overall installation in a safe condition
Safely isolate and lock-off of services (gas, water, electricity); for example, cap off gas supplies to prevent possible escape of gas
Plan work schedule and logistics to meet customers’ requirements and priorities, time management
Interpret specifications, drawings and technical information, for example manuals
Conduct or agree risk assessments and apply method statements to maintain safe working environment
Provide information and guidance to end-users on the correct operation and maintenance of commercial catering equipment
Complete documentation (written or digital) associated with the specified job for example, time sheets, maintenance records, written acceptance of work completed, commissioning sheets
Maintain tools, equipment and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including ensuring meters (typically Electric Multi Meter, Ohmmeter, Carbon Dioxide/Monoxide Meter, Flue Gas Analyser – this list is not exhaustive) are in calibrated date
Maintain and safely store stock – consumables and spares
Strong communication with the customer
Report on work completed to office/manager

We are currently recruiting for a machine maintenance engineer for an ongoing contract for our client in Portsmouth.
Purpose of the Job
Support, maintain and improve production equipment to maximise manufacturing availability.
Principal Responsibilities
1. To maintain production equipment to ensure maximum uptime target of 95% availability.
2. To promptly identify root cause of equipment failure and implement subsequent repair.
3. To manage an existing Planned Maintenance system, perform tasks to predetermined schedule, identifying potential operator owned tasks to sustain process uptime & maximise capacity.
4. To manage PM system & calibration of production test systems.
5. To identify & ensure sufficient spares are available to provide adequate response time regarding component failure
6. To specify and implement improvements to the production process or equipment to achieve cost, productivity or quality benefits.
7. To ensure process, equipment and ergonomic risk assessments are completed where necessary.
10. Ensuring timely completion of HSE actions
11. To write technical documents to define procedures, including cell maintenance instructions including defining of TPM schedules
12. To liaise with identified external partners/vendors regarding technical aspects of production equipment and spares.
13. To design or detail necessary jigs and fixtures.
13. Ensuring timely completion of Kaizen ideas
Shift hours will be Day shift hours as Monday - Thursday 08:00 - 16:45 and Friday 08:00 - 12:00
THE CANDIDATE
I. Education Required (academic and/or technical education)
Literacy and Numeracy.
A broad range of qualifications may be acceptable; however, it is envisaged that there should be a sound Engineering background with a demonstrable ability, ideally supported by a recognised Mechanical or Electrical apprenticeship. An ONC/HNC in an Engineering discipline would be advantageous.
Computer literate experience with MS Office.
Electrical installation qualification to a Minimum of 17th Edition desirable.
Technical Skills & Specific Knowledge Required (specific skills and knowledge required for the position)
Practical experience with a hands-on and methodical approach to mechanical and electrical fault diagnosis/analysis with the ability to use diagnostic tools/equipment.
The ability to communicate effectively with internal customers and external suppliers both on technical matters and general levels
Proven working knowledge of assembly automation including diagnosing pneumatic system logic
Previous experience of installation/testing, & fault finding of electrical systems and Experience of PLC program and control system interrogation would be an advantageous.
