This position will provide support for plant operations including managing Continuous Improvement Process and Production Process Control. Minimum Requirements: 4 years Chemistry, Engineering degree or equivalent experience, minimum 3 years' experience. Formal training in Lean and/or Six Sigma methodologies. Ability to read and interpret documents such as procedure manuals, operating and maintenance manuals and safety rules. Ability to use a computer for all company required processes, procedures, and trainings. Essential Functions: Experience in identification and implementation of process optimization solutions. Understanding of Lean Manufacturing/Continuous Improvement methodologies and ability to teach and model them. Investigating shortfalls, issues, and complaints in current business processes. Ability to influence, mentor, and coach to get results through others. Collaborates with operations manager and/or plant engineering on modification of equipment and processes to reduce cost and improve efficiency and quality. Works together with R&D, engineering, and plant resources to develop and implement continuous improvement projects. Monitors and collaborates with R&D where necessary to modify production processes for existing products to improve consistency, quality, and reduce cost. Collaborates with R&D on process development - Including reviewing and approving proposed manufacturing procedures for new products. Monitors plant operating metrics to identify and implement corrective actions that positively impact cost, quality, and cycle time problem areas. Provides technical support and consultation to the Quality Control department. Specifically, regarding recovery plans for off-specification, obsolete, and problem finished goods. Monitors the consistency of production using SQC, SPC, or other appropriate techniques. Strong communicator with top-notch presentation skills who can develop and provide training to production personnel on matters concerning formulation, materials handling, processing, and quality procedures. Field Technical Service Engineer
JOB DESCRIPTION Position Summary: Carboline is looking to hire a Field Technical Service Engineer to cover various parts of our Gulf Region seeking candidates located near New Orleans or Baton Rouge. This position will be responsible for traveling to job sites providing guidance and technical support on startups, problems encountered on the job, and coatings inspections on various Carboline products. This individual will assist with routine in-house work such as product evaluations, equipment maintenance and panel preparations. This is a very hands on role requiring frequent travel and heavy interaction with customers, applicators and the Carboline sales team. When not traveling in the field, this position will work out of their home office providing technical support through phone calls and email. This individual will need to be very familiar with linings, coatings and fireproofing products with prior experience working in the industrial coatings industry. Individuals with NACE certifications are highly preferred. Minimum Requirements 5+ years Technical Service experience within the Industrial Coatings and or Fireproofing Industries Preferred Requirements Valid Passport; NACE Level 1, NACE Level 2 or NACE Level 3 (SSPC or AMPP) Physical Requirements This position requires occasional physical activity. May require lifting up to 75 lbs on occasion. May require computer usage for an extended period of time - up to 8 hours in a day. Be able to climb and meet the requirements of a 1A Ladder. Occasional exposure to various chemicals. Will require travel of 50% plus, including nighttime and weekends. Must be able to pass a respirator fit test & maintain respirator requirements. Duties Preparation of panels prior to coating. Have a good understanding of the basic operation of hand tools, power tools, abrasive blast cabinet and pin welder. To include minor maintenance of same. Responsible for maintaining a stock of standard panel systems. Provide documentation for panels which will be tested. Spray nuclear testing orders upon certification. Package and ship sample panels. Starting position in Field Service, will handle routine field jobs within capabilities. Travel approximately 50% of the time. Contact customers / salesmen to gather pertinent data prior to field trips. Demonstrate proper use of mixing equipment, airless and conventional spray equipment, etc., to apply Carboline or SPC products in the assigned divisions. Interpret surface preparation standards per specifications. Demonstrate use and techniques involved with inspections equipment. Train supervisors, inspectors, and painters in the above technical areas. Assist in application of new or revised product evaluations, new equipment evaluations. Carry out procedures as defined in the Technical Service Procedures Manual. Perform assigned routine office duties as required for department function. JOB DESCRIPTION I&C engineer and supported by I&C technician team. Responsible for the design and review of all I&C equipment and instruments for the Plant. Explore solutions to production problems or improve efficiency with maintenance and operators. Run experiments and tests to aid in the development of improved manufacturing procedures and processes, and become familiar with a variety of concepts, practices, and procedures. Work and coordinate activities with the other engineering disciplines, Process, Project and Environmental. Prepare, review and/or approve of instrument specification data sheets and submit purchase requisitions for approval. Prepare equipment lists, instrument index, I/O lists. Review process flow diagrams and piping and instrument diagrams (P&IDs). Meet with plant technical staff to discuss technical information and features. Ensure drawings, specifications, reports, and analyses meet scope, schedule, cost, and quality requirements. Participate in failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA) and Process Hazard analysis (PHA) to consider equipment, personnel, and environmental safety. Knowledge of capital approval process and project justification required. Be involved in the design and development of equipment and work procedures. Be responsible for preparing, maintaining, and updating process hazard analysis. Ensures necessary records are maintained and prepared according to established guidelines. Takes responsibility for I&C Engineering Change Management system. Coordinate and approve all sample submissions of new products and engineering changes through the Product Development Program. Assists in identifying the root causes of a problem and instituting corrective action such as changes to batch sheets, generation of Engineering Change Requests, changes in workstations, changes to inspection analyses and changes to process procedures. Provide recommendations to improve procedures that apply to quality and operations functions. Be responsible for the design and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure that quality standards are met during production. Review quality trends based on quality data system information and interaction with production personnel and participate in the generation and implementation of defect-reduction programs. Investigate quality improvement opportunities and complaints with Director, Plant Manager and Research and Development. Prepare for and represent the company during all ISO and related audits. Review all design drawings and changes, process procedures, test procedures, procurement documents, and inspection analyses to ensure that the divisions and customers quality requirements are met on assigned products, programs, areas, and functions. Provide support to maintenance and operation group including visual aids and inspection analyses. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: B.S. degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering. Preferred, 2+ years working in a Manufacturing environment, and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Electrical Schematic and panel layout design using CAD (preferably AutoCAD Electrical) experience. Experience in the design of programmable logic controllers (PLC) or distributed control system (DCS) based controls systems. Expertise in National Electrical Code requirements in industrial facilities and hazardous locations. Proven understanding of integrating instrumentation with data acquisition hardware. Proficiency with electrical diagnostic equipment. Familiar with industrial sensors and actuators; pressure, temperature, accelerometers, motor controllers, flow meters, relays, strain gauges, valves, and pumps. Strong technical and non-technical writing and verbal skills Able to work in the United States without sponsorship. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents and/or scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
