An established engineering organisation operating within the maritime and defence sector is seeking a Senior Test Engineer to join its test and verification team. This is a fully onsite, hands-on engineering role, ideal for someone who enjoys working directly with hardware, test rigs, and live product testing rather than desk-based analysis alone.
You will play a key role in delivering robust testing and validation of complex mechanical products, supporting projects from early design through to final qualification.
The roleAs a Senior Test Engineer, you will provide technical leadership and hands-on expertise across test planning, rig design, execution, and reporting. You will work closely with project leads, engineers, suppliers, and third-party test facilities, ensuring products meet performance, quality, and reliability requirements.
This role sits within a fast-paced development environment and requires regular physical presence in the test facility. You will also support and mentor other test engineers and contribute to the continuous improvement of testing processes and capabilities.
Key responsibilities:
Capture test requirements from product specifications and engineering drawings
Support project reviews and provide technical input to test strategies
Develop detailed test plans, including rig allocation, scheduling, and hardware requirements
Design and produce bespoke test hardware (e.g. adaptor plates, test shafts) using CAD
Raise quotations and purchase orders for test and rig interface hardware
Create and review risk assessments to ensure testing is carried out safely and within operating limits
Assemble and operate test rigs, monitor live testing via data acquisition systems, and perform inspections at agreed intervals
Manage testing activities at external suppliers, OEMs, and third-party test facilities
Produce comprehensive test reports detailing methodology, data, conclusions, and recommendations
Present test results to internal stakeholders where required
Ensure compliance with QEHS requirements and promote 5S best practices
Actively support training and mentoring of junior engineers
Contribute to compliance with quality and environmental standards (e.g. ISO 9001, ISO 14001)
Support the ongoing development of the test facility as a centre of technical excellence
About you
You will ideally bring:
Proven experience in a Test Engineering environment
Strong hands-on experience with mechanical systems and test rigs
A degree (or preferably a Master’s) in a relevant engineering discipline
The ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Strong capability interpreting engineering drawings and designing test hardware using CAD
Confidence carrying out mechanical engineering calculations
Experience within the marine or defence engineering sectors (desirable)
Familiarity with test and monitoring tools such as LabVIEW or similar platforms
Hands-on experience with instrumentation and data capture equipment (e.g. thermocouples, LVDTs, tachometers)
Clear communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across engineering teams
Strong report-writing skills with a high attention to detail
Commercial awareness and a practical, delivery-focused mindset

A Golf Greenkeeper is responsible for the maintenance, care and overall appearance of a golf course in line with employer requirements. It is their job to maintain a good quality playing surface and ensure the course offers a consistent challenge and an enjoyable experience for golfers. There are four key turfgrass areas on a golf course - greens, tees, fairways and areas of rough, each of which requires a different type of maintenance. Using a range of equipment and machinery safely and competently, will play a major part within an apprentices training programme. Golf Greenkeepers will also be involved in hazard, environmental and ecological operations, which may include bunker maintenance, planting turf, trees, shrubs and developing wildlife habitats. The skills required to become a competent greenkeeper will be acquired whilst working as an apprentice on the golf course. A Multi-Skilled Vehicle Accident Repair Technician repairs all elements of a vehicle after it has taken some type of collision damage.

The programme lasts for 30-months. The training incorporates underpinning knowledge in partnership and managed by EMTEC Colleges
Throughout the duration of the programme, the candidates will be expected to travel to EMTEC's training centre in Nottingham for 24 separate 1-week blocks to carry out skills training. Residential accommodation and meals will be provided.
Candidates will work towards achieving the Accident Repair Technician Apprenticeship Standard for the Automotive Bodyshop Industry at Level 3. They will also be required to study towards achieving level 2 maths and English functional skills if they do not already hold equivalent qualifications
Regular visits to the dealership from EMTEC Vocational Learning Advisors will take place, who will observe all evidence opportunities that occur naturally in the workplace
Candidates will be expected to engage in self-directed learning outside of normal working hours, which will be monitored and tracked through an online e-portal. In addition to this, as part of the programme, the employer is offering additional off-the-job training to achieve the following qualifications, in order to bring the candidate to the required skills level for Gemini ARC Multiskills Technicians

British Standard Welding accreditation BS1140 & BS4872 covering the range of .5mm to 2.5mm material (to include IMI AOM009)
MIG brazing, and achieve IMI AOM133
Bonding & Riveting EC842
Refrigerant Handling IMIAL L3

As our Process Engineering Apprentice you will:
You will be based at a Water Treatment Works, taking care of and completing operational and plant maintenance activities to provide wholesome water to our customers. Task consist of a proactive planned workbasket that include but not limited too, cleaning and calibrating instrumentation, completing Water Quality laboratory checks, fault finding and diagnoses of treatment issues, integrating trend data, cleaning of process tanks, completing small scale pipework repairs, working with electrical and mechanical colleagues to resolve faults and accepting chemical deliveries, all to ensure compliance with water quality standards, environmental regulations and ensure health and safety, and process safety is achieved and managed across all 4 Leeds and Harrogate Water Treatement Works.
A key element of the role is chemical and process optimisation of the clean water treatment processes to achieve the water production optimal plan and manage cost. You will lead optimisation activities and share best practice, ensuring that water production service outage is minimised at all times. You will manage asset failure, operational recovery from the field and support cost information monitoring.
You will review Risk Assessments and Methods Statements, issue control of work documentation, adhere to safe systems of work, identify hazards and implement mitigation, update reporting systems to ensure H&S compliance across the Water Treatment Works in line with Health, Safety & Environment (HSE), Water Quality Requirements (DWI) and the Environment Agency statutory requirements are followed at all times.
You will also play a vital role in completing operational actions on site and providing support during incidents or operational events and ensure they are escalated and managed appropriately.
You will embrace Modernisation ways of working and reducing asset failure through Dynamic Asset Maintenance whilst supporting the new operational asset management system (ERP).
Training:Our Process Engineers study the level 3 Water Industry Process Technician apprenticeship standard which is delivered through Watertrain. Watertrain are a leading training provider delivering accredited training and apprenticeships specifically for the Water Industry.
