As an Instrumentation or Mechanical Technician you will spend your first year at a specialist training facility with our training provider Westinghouse Springfields Fuels. You will learn basic engineering and craft skills, giving you a great foundation to progress.
You will then join us on site in year two, based within our training team where you will undertake more formal in-house training for the next three years with our Engineering teams.

The broad purpose of a machine tool application engineer is to support new & existing Mazak customers in setting up, optimisation and operation of their CNC machine tool.
Supporting customers across all manufacturing sectors including, aerospace, defence, medical, oil & gas, energy, and high performance automotive.
As part of the role, machine tool application engineers will provide technical support & expertise for all areas of the engineering and manufacturing function.
This begins with presale support involving a comprehensive analysis of machine requirements and includes process definition and development, machine selection and time estimates.
Following the sale of a machine tool, support is provided, from onsite application support through to project management of a completely bespoke machining solution (including machine tool, automation, measurement solutions, CAD/CAM and process training).
In their daily work, a machine tool application engineer will liaise with customers via email, in person and telephone to provide technical support. They will also program, set up and operate various CNC machine tools including lathe, machining centre, 5 axes multitasking and laser technology. Another aspect of the role requires the engineer to deliver Mazatrol program training to new users in the Mazak training academy. They will also interact with various stakeholders, both internal & external suppliers. As a customer facing role, the application engineer works closely with the sales team to provide technical support, machine tool demonstrations and engineering solutions to customer requirements. Typically, reporting to the applications' manager, they should be able to work with minimal supervision.
Training:Formal training is delivered at HWGTA, located in Worcester (WR4 9GN):
Duration is approximately 40–45 months.
Year 1 includes 29–42 weeks off-the-job training to cover practical and theory aspects.
Year 2 would include 1 day per week to complete the EAL Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering - Development Knowledge.
Years 3&4 will be based in company developing skills in preparation for the end point assessment to gain your Machining Technician Level 3 qualification.
You will receive monthly visits from your assigned Learning and Development Specialist, who will set you work, monitor your development and wellbeing, and discuss training sessions. They will also prepare you for your End Point Assessment.

You will undertake a planned rotation within appropriate departments in order to gain the skills, and competence to complete the Standard requirements. As an apprentice, your three-year development programme will be made up of at least five six-month placement rotations. Our aim is to equip you with the range of skills and experience you need for your successful career. We also understand that everyone’s career is different, so every apprentice’s journey is unique. Here’s an idea of some placements you could complete:
Planning Projects – conducting research and data analysis to support some of London’s major growth and redevelopment projects and ensure these contribute to a sustainable transport system.
Investment Delivery Planning – overseeing the delivery of projects on TfL’s own road network and other assets and working with boroughs to deliver change on their own highways and transport networks.
Network Performance Delivery – monitoring and adjusting traffic signal timings in real-time across London; collecting data and constructing computer models to test new scenarios and proposals on TfL roads.
The above are just a few examples, and we also offer placements in a range of different areas such as Strategic Demand Forecast Modelling, Geographic Information Systems, and Development Planning, amongst others. Placements are flexible, taking into account business needs and each apprentice’s unique strengths, interests and study requirements.
Training:You’ll be working towards a Level 3 BTEC Transport Planning Technician qualification. Typically, you’ll be required to attend college four times per year, in blocks of 1-2 weeks which may be held outside of London.
Whilst on the scheme, we’ll support your technical development through a wide range of on-the-job practical experiences and placements. We’ll also support your professional development through a combination of online training courses, mentoring and structured networking opportunities. You’ll receive one-to-one support throughout the programme from your scheme sponsor and your line manager. You’ll also be connected to a ‘buddy’ who will be a more experienced apprentice from the scheme.
You’ll also have opportunities to complete additional training courses. These will vary from soft skills training to technical skills training.

Our Support Technicians look after service in the Field - this means working on-site with our diverse range of customers, from small local business right up to large FTSE 100 corporate organisations - no two days are the same! As a Customer Support Technician, you will be working in the Field day-to-day and have direct exposure to our customers. As a Chubb Apprentice Engineer you will:
Get off to a great start on a rewarding career in a vibrant and exciting sector that is set to continue to grow and is continuously adopting new innovations as technologies evolve
Attend and gain experience on a wide variety of different client sites, across a multitude of sectors
Receive training and exposure to a broad range of Security Systems equipment, from small and simple applications through to large networked complex configurations
Get training and experience of installing, testing and commissioning cabling and containment systems, components and control equipment on new systems as well as maintaining our existing clients Security solutions
Work in small teams to begin with, gradually building your knowledge, skills and behaviours that will allow you to work on your own installation and service projects
Be provided with and receive training on a wide range of hand and power tools, as well as all required testing and safety equipment
Use a range of access equipment including steps and extension ladders, hop-ups and podiums, mobile and fixed scaffolding etc.
Training:
While on this apprenticeship, you will work towards a Level 3 Fire Emergency & Security Systems Technician apprenticeship based in England
The training will consist of week-long modules covering theory and practical classroom training, manufacturer systems training, and real-world experience shadowing Chubb engineers in the field
Be prepared to attend local college on day-release or stay away as required on weekly block-release residential training, as delivered by our Apprenticeship training partners
Training Outcome:Complete the programme and you will join one of our field installation and maintenance teams as a fully qualified engineer.
