You will be assisting the local M&E team with the delivery of maintenance and repair works to mechanical & electrical structures, plant and equipment to protect and enhance the reputation of the network as a valued national asset. This will include carrying out reactive repairs, planned preventative maintenance, general works programme, and projects, including working on a wide range of assets such as bridges, locks, pump stations & construction sites.
Comply with Canal & River Trust’s Health & Safety policy and defined standards, report incidents, accidents and near misses.
Assist with point of work risk assessments and make adjustments to work methods where appropriate

As a Trust apprentice, you will complete your apprenticeship training both on and off-the-job, through virtual webinars and block weeks attendance at our chosen training provider based in Grantham
You will be expected to stay away from home at college accommodation during your block weeks
All college related travel costs are paid for by the Trust

Receive an introduction to the role of Quantity Surveying and Estimating and a general grounding in the construction process through understanding Commercial techniques, an introduction to our standard documents and software and familiarisation with our product and on-site practice through site visits.

As a Chubb Apprentice Engineer you will:
Get off to a great start on a rewarding career in a vibrant and exciting sector that is set to continue to grow and is continuously adopting new innovations as technologies evolve.
Attend and gain experience on a wide variety of different client sites, ranging from domestic dwellings to multi-site global businesses.
Receive training and exposure to a broad range of Fire or Security Systems equipment, from small and simple applications through to large networked complex configurations.
Get training and experience of installing, testing and commissioning cabling and containment systems, components and control equipment on new systems as well as maintaining our existing clients Fire and/or Security solutions.
Work in small teams to begin with, gradually building your knowledge, skills and behaviours that will allow you to work on your own installation and service projects.
Be provided with and receive training on a wide range of hand and power tools, as well as all required testing and safety equipment.
Use a range of access equipment including steps and extension ladders, hop-ups and podiums, mobile and fixed scaffolding etc.
Training:
While on this apprenticeship, you will work towards a Level 3 Fire Emergency & Security Systems Technician apprenticeship if based in England.
The training will consist of week-long modules covering theory and practical classroom training, manufacturer systems training, and real-world experience shadowing Chubb engineers in the field.
Be prepared to attend local college on day-release or stay away as required on weekly block-release residential training, as delivered by our Apprenticeship training partners.
Training Outcome:
Complete the programme and you will join one of our field installation and maintenance teams as a fully qualified engineer. Here your training will continue, with close support from our early careers team.

Training:Junior Science Apprentices employed at NPL study the Level 3 Metrology Technician Apprenticeship over three years.
A wide mix of training is provided for the duration of the apprenticeship, combining the daily tasks in the science groups where the apprentice is based, formal off-the-job training and the opportunity to practise new skills in a real work environment. 30 days per year of training at NPL will form the core of the off-the-job training. It is organised into 6 compulsory blocks per year, each of five days duration in Teddington. Further off-the-job training will then be built into your workplace activities. This could include online learning, or tasks set by NPL tutors for completion in the workplace. Our aim is to help you be confident in the workplace from day one; through additional training you will learn how to communicate effectively, how to manage your time, and how to work as part of a team. We want you to develop your self-awareness and your confidence.Training Outcome:NPL seeks to stretch and grow the talents of all NPL employees, tailoring development to the needs of each individual.
