Our 3 Year Apprenticeship Programme will see you develop both technically and personally, with the majority of your first year spent at HETA training centre in Hull completing some of the following training:
Foundational knowledge units including Engineering Mechanical & Electrical Science and Net Zero Sustainability
Specialist Mechanical training including:
Mechanical Maintenance
Bench Fitting
Fluid Power
1-day a week will be dedicated to the delivery of a BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate in Engineering
Once you’re equipped with your foundation knowledge, you’ll join us on-site for Year 2 and 3 where you’ll work alongside our teams and start gaining valuable hands-on experience and training to further your understanding and start applying what you’ve learnt. You’ll be assigned a mentor, who will oversee your development and training, offering valuable insights into career paths at Perenco.
Some of your activities on-site might look like the below:
Complete scheduled trade maintenance activities as per the maintenance management system
Maintenance to be completed using the company standards and procedures, minimising impact on production, and maximising plant availability
Raise relevant permits within the agreed time frame and generate new work requests to highlight plant and equipment failure
Manage and maintain Trade inventory of critical spares and stock equipment such that maintenance visits can be completed on schedule and equipment down time is minimised
Supporting project activity and working with vendors and sub-contractors as required
Develop and review operational and maintenance procedures
Comply with and pursue requirements of Change Management Policies e.g., Plant Modification Proposals
Employ Perenco Observation Safety Techniques (POST) to report unsafe acts
Training:Our Apprentices will undertake a Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician, Level 3 (A level). This will include a full-time period of practical workshop based ‘off-the-job’ training at HETA in Hull.
You will also begin a technical certificate (depending on your prior attainments) where you will be required to attend HETA one day a week over two academic years. After your initial training at HETA, you will be working towards your End Point Assessment.Training Outcome:By the end of the apprentice programme, you’ll have developed your technical abilities as a qualified engineer, built your networks, and be on your way with further study with a varied career path ahead of you. Serve as lead project engineer for approved capital projects with the goal of on time and on budget completion. Develop and administer a viable and visual Preventative Maintenance Program that reduces downtime and improves overall reliability of production and production supporting machinery. Responsible for identifying capital requirements for the facility's annual capital plan and budget. Direct, review, and approve product design and changes consistent with MOC procedures. Recruit departmental employees; assign, direct, and evaluate their work; and oversee the development and maintenance of staff competence. Analyze annual site utility expenditure and develop plan to optimize plant efficiency to reduce costs (ISO 14001). Perform administrative functions such as reviewing and writing reports, approving expenditures, enforcing rules, and making decisions about the purchase of materials or services. Integrate the plant PHA initiative with the appropriate capital projects. Investigate equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operations and work with the maintenance crew to implement the needed preventative measures. What you’ll do at workThis is a site-based role where you will be placed on a project according to your location where there is an Engineer to mentor you through the first stages in your Civil Engineering career. Some of the day-to-day tasks are:
To provide sufficient information and set out for each gang on site to have continuity of work and inform Line Manager if this is not possible
To implement and comply with a safe system of work at site level and ensure operatives are briefed
To assist with site investigations
Communicating and liaising effectively with colleagues and the technical team, subcontractors, contracting civil engineers, consultants, co-workers and clients
To monitor the progress and quality of works on all sites against programme and specification
To ensure all works are signed off by the client prior to being accessed by follow-on trades
To liaise with subcontractors and provide them with sufficient information
To assist with risk assessments and writing method statements for all elements of work, assist in briefing the workforce and ensure that work is being carried out in line with RAMS on-site
To order materials in a timely manner for the site and ensure that waste is kept to a minimum
To participate in the weekly meetings regarding production targets, gang performance and future labour/plant/material requirements
To be proactive in obtaining all information is available in advance of works commencing
Keep the drawing register up to date and ensure all drawings used are the current revision
To be responsible for all site dimensional control and to ensure all works are installed to tolerances as set within relevant specifications
To maintain accurate as-built records of all works installed on-site
To record outputs and communicate them to the Senior Engineer/Project Manager
Using computer modelling software to analyse data
Fill in Natta QA documentation and any additional quality records required by the client

In this apprenticeship you will learn a range of mechanical and electrical skills ranging from bearing fitting to troubleshooting and repairing flow wrappers, fault finding electrical circuits to installing motors.
You will also learn how to safely maintain the equipment to make and package our Ryvita and Dorset Cereals products which are made on the Poole site.
These skills, coupled with a working knowledge of the process operations will develop you into a strong, well-balanced mechanical and electrical engineer.
Focus will be to complete preventative maintenance on Bakery equipment and fault-finding and diagnosing equipment breakdowns arise so that operations can continue safely and efficiently so that all our products meet all quality standards and customer expectations.
In year 2, one apprentice will begin to diversify into Electrical, Controls and Instrumentation engineering (EC&I). The EC&I apprentice will develop skills to design, develop and manage PLC and software-based control systems and distributed controls systems on our site.
Our 4 Year Apprenticeship Programme will see you develop both technically and personally, with the majority of your first year spent at SETA training centre in Southampton completing some of the following training:

Based on site, you will understand the design, construction and maintenance of infrastructure
Work alongside the Site Manager and Site Engineer understanding full site operations, from site set up, construction, installation and handover
Learn how to set out structures, roads, pipework and ducting above and below ground
Keep accurate records for as built data and feed this information back into the Building Information Modelling (BIM) system
Carry out and record quality assurance requirements and work within the team to plan and deliver the works including selecting the correct plant and ordering materials
Work with the site team to carry out health, safety and environmental monitoring in line with the Business Management Systems (BMS)
Training:You will receive full on the job training by your dedicated mentor. Your apprenticeship will be supported by an external service provider at college or in a classroom environment. The training is likely to be 1 week blocks with Leeds College of Building. This may require you to be away from home for that time but all related expenses will be covered by JN Bentley.
The qualification you will undertake will be a Level 4 Civil Engineering Senior Technician apprenticeship.Training Outcome:
