This apprenticeship will combine skills, knowledge and behaviours to be successful in the Process Engineering role. This will include many different disciplines including manufacturing methods, production methods, quality assurance, core engineering principles, engineering and manufacturing documentation and CAD packages, communication techniques, lean methodology and project management. The requirement at the end of the apprenticeship is to attain Engineering Manufacturing Technician Level 4. Upon completion the role is to develop, implement and maintain efficient manufacturing process and workflow for chemically etched products. Investigating Operational problems affecting production and reporting and recommending solutions. Manufacturing engineering processes:
Organise, implement and maintain production process flow
Develop working instructions, standards and process documents, ensuring these are followed
Manage manufacturing documentation required for product manufacturing i.e. revise drawings, accurate work instructions and workmanship standards and procedures
Provide manufacturing data i.e. production control charts, reliability, process capability
To improve the process and monitor and measure progress targets
Identify ways to reduce production costs through recommendations i.e. new process equipment justification to improve performance 40
Maintenance / Facilities:
Oversee the facilities maintenance, liaise and provide support to the maintenance team where required
Monitor and manage the improvements to the operating utilities equipment and practices
Continually improve existing operations for increased quality, productivity, efficiency, production, reporting and recommending solutions, working closely with the maintenance team
Liaise with suppliers on manufacturing processes and place orders where required
Training:Day release at Solihull College, Chelmsley Wood Campus for first 2 years and 4 days a week onsite at Parker, Castle Vale. 3rd year at Parker, Castle Vale embedding learning with a view to day release to other Parker sites. The Quality Control Technician is responsible for performing laboratory testing and inspections of raw materials, in-process materials, and finished products to ensure products meet established quality standards and customer specifications. This position works closely with Quality, Production, Research & Development, and other departments to identify quality issues, investigate deviations, and support continuous improvement.
The Quality Control Technician must demonstrate strong attention to detail, sound judgment, accurate documentation, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment involving dyes, paints, pigments, and related chemical products.
Essential Responsibilities
Quality Testing & Inspection
Perform routine physical, chemical, and instrumental testing of raw materials, in-process batches, and finished products.
Perform color evaluations and comparisons using appropriate laboratory methods and instrumentation.
Conduct testing such as viscosity, pH, solids, density, grind, particle size, moisture, strength, tint, color, and other applicable product characteristics.
Operate, calibrate, clean, and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments according to established procedures.
Production & In-Process Support
Communicate test results to Production and Quality personnel in a timely manner.
Assist Production with troubleshooting quality issues and identifying potential causes of product variation.
Support batch adjustments and rework activities when directed by Quality or Production leadership.
Place material on hold when test results do not meet established specifications and escalate issues appropriately.
Support investigations of nonconforming materials and products.
Documentation & Data Management
Accurately record laboratory test results in the appropriate laboratory, quality, or ERP systems.
Support preparation of quality reports, certificates of analysis, and other quality documentation as assigned.
Maintain confidentiality and integrity of customer and product information.
Safety & Environmental Responsibilities
Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
Properly handle, label, store, and dispose of chemicals and laboratory materials.

As a Mechatronics Maintenance Apprentice, you will develop the practical skills and technical knowledge needed to become a multi-skilled maintenance engineer. Working alongside experienced engineers, you will gain hands-on experience maintaining, repairing and improving the plant and equipment that keeps their manufacturing operations running safely, efficiently and reliably. Over the course of this four-year apprenticeship, you will combine structured off-the-job training with practical, on-site learning, building expertise in both mechanical and electrical engineering disciplines.
You will be part of the Maintenance Team, working under the guidance and support of a dedicated mentor who will help you develop your skills and confidence throughout the programme. As your experience grows, you will take on increasing responsibility while learning to work safely and professionally in a busy manufacturing environment.
Your day-to-day activities will include supporting planned preventative maintenance to maximise equipment reliability and minimise downtime, assisting with fault finding, diagnosing and repairing mechanical and electrical systems on a wide range of manufacturing plant, and helping to maintain pneumatic and hydraulic equipment, motors, drives, sensors and basic control systems. You will also carry out routine inspections, lubrication, adjustments and component replacements under supervision while learning industry best practice.
Safety will be at the heart of everything you do. You will follow safe systems of work, including risk assessments, permit-to-work procedures and lock out/tag out (LOTOTO) processes, while maintaining high housekeeping standards across the site. You will also learn the importance of accurately recording maintenance activities, communicating effectively with the engineering team and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance safety, quality, reliability and operational performance.Training:

Level 2 Functional Skills in English and maths if required

The Person:
Previous CAD Design, CAD Engineer or CAD Technician experience
Experience within engineering, electrical, mechanical, BMS or controls environments
Confident using CAD software
Able to understand technical drawings and engineering specifications
Electrical or Building Services knowledge advantageous but not essential
