As an Apprentice at LW Theatres, you’ll work towards a Level 3 Creative Venue Technician Apprenticeship while gaining valuable skills working on some of the biggest shows in the world!

What you’ll be doing…
Work on a wide variety of shows and technical rehearsals as part of the Stage and Electrics Department. You’ll help set, operate, and manage scenery, props, followspots, and lighting or sound desks
Support the Production Technician team by preparing the show each day, carrying out pre‑show checks, and ensuring all equipment is ready and safe to use
Collaborate closely with your team, visiting companies, and Stage Management to ensure every performance runs smoothly and safely. The wellbeing of everyone backstage, on stage, and in the audience is always our top priority
Develop strong problem-solving skills by responding to challenges that arise during live performances
Carry out maintenance on set pieces, lighting equipment, video systems, special effects rigs, and other technical elements to keep the show looking its absolute best
Take part in ad‑hoc project work as directed by the Heads of Department, giving you exposure to a broader range of technical theatre tasks
Extensive, industry‑specific training will be provided throughout the apprenticeship. During your apprenticeship, you’ll spend a significant portion of your first year at Make UK based in Aston, Birmingham (B6 7EU). Your typical hours at the training provider will be from 8:00 AM to 4:30PM Monday – Thursday and reduced hours on Friday's, you will receive a confirmed timetable upon joining us. Here you’ll be assigned an Industrial Training Manager (ITM) and a JLR early careers cohort leader to support you throughout your apprenticeship journey.
Year 1 – Foundation Phase - In your first year, you'll focus on building your foundational knowledge of engineering and essential workplace competencies to ensure safety. You’ll spend time in workshops developing practical skills such as welding, electrical installation, milling, and fault finding. You’ll also take part in regular plant placements where you’ll have the opportunity to apply these newly acquired skills in a real-world environment. Year 3 – Academic Knowledge and Competence Development – In your third year you will be developing your skills in plant and continue working towards your BTEC qualification, focusing on developing your skills beyond the basics and working on real-world projects on-site at JLR.

As our Process Engineering Apprentice you will:
You will be based at a Water Treatment Works, taking care of and completing operational and plant maintenance activities to provide wholesome water to our customers. Task consist of a proactive planned workbasket that include but not limited too, cleaning and calibrating instrumentation, completing Water Quality laboratory checks, fault finding and diagnoses of treatment issues, integrating trend data, cleaning of process tanks, completing small scale pipework repairs, working with electrical and mechanical colleagues to resolve faults and accepting chemical deliveries, all to ensure compliance with water quality standards, environmental regulations and ensure health and safety, and process safety is achieved and managed across all 4 Leeds and Harrogate Water Treatement Works.
A key element of the role is chemical and process optimisation of the clean water treatment processes to achieve the water production optimal plan and manage cost. You will lead optimisation activities and share best practice, ensuring that water production service outage is minimised at all times. You will manage asset failure, operational recovery from the field and support cost information monitoring.
You will review Risk Assessments and Methods Statements, issue control of work documentation, adhere to safe systems of work, identify hazards and implement mitigation, update reporting systems to ensure H&S compliance across the Water Treatment Works in line with Health, Safety & Environment (HSE), Water Quality Requirements (DWI) and the Environment Agency statutory requirements are followed at all times.
You will also play a vital role in completing operational actions on site and providing support during incidents or operational events and ensure they are escalated and managed appropriately.
You will embrace Modernisation ways of working and reducing asset failure through Dynamic Asset Maintenance whilst supporting the new operational asset management system (ERP).
Training:Our Process Engineers study the level 3 Water Industry Process Technician apprenticeship standard which is delivered through Watertrain. Watertrain are a leading training provider delivering accredited training and apprenticeships specifically for the Water Industry. The apprenticeship is 36 months in duration plus your end point assessment period and is delivered on a block release basis at one of our Water Treatment sites.
