Base Salary Range: $65,000 - $85,000
Bonus Potential (1st/2nd year averages): approx. $5,000 - $15,000

A leading UK manufacturing organisation is looking to appoint a Design Engineer to support major capital investment projects across multiple manufacturing facilities nationwide.
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with strong CAD design capability and engineering experience within a production/manufacturing environment to join their central engineering and capital projects function, supporting projects typically ranging from £250K to £2M.
The role is primarily focused on supporting manufacturing operations across their network of factories and the central capital projects team by providing upfront engineering design, plant layout support, process improvement analysis, and technical project coordination during the early concept and feasibility stages of capital projects.
The position is based in the Derbyshire area and will involve regular travel to manufacturing plants across the UK, including occasional overnight stays.

Key Responsibilities of Design Engineer
Produce 2D and 3D engineering designs for manufacturing and capital projects
Support concept development, plant layouts, machinery positioning, and equipment integration
Visit manufacturing sites to assess existing operations and identify process bottlenecks and improvement opportunities
Work closely with operations, engineering, and project teams to develop practical engineering solutions
Liaise with suppliers and contractors to obtain technical information, specifications, and quotations
Support the preparation of tender documentation and technical specifications for capital equipment procurement
Assist in feasibility studies and project planning activities
Provide engineering and CAD support across a variety of manufacturing improvement and capital expenditure projects
Design Engineer Candidate Requirements
Applicants should ideally come from one of the following backgrounds:
Mechanical Engineering
Process Engineering
Chemical Engineering
You will also require:
Previous experience working within a manufacturing or industrial environment
Strong understanding of process manufacturing operations
Experience producing machinery, process, or equipment layouts
2D and 3D CAD design experience using one or more of the following:
AutoCAD
SolidWorks
Inventor
Fusion 360
Ability to communicate effectively with suppliers, contractors, and internal stakeholders
Full UK Driving Licence
