Are you a Quantity Surveyor who understands the commercial realities of delivering highways, surfacing or civil engineering projects?
We're recruiting for an established highways and civil engineering contractor in the South East that is looking to strengthen its commercial team with an experienced Quantity Surveyor.
This isn't a role buried behind spreadsheets.
You'll work closely with the operational and senior management teams, taking commercial responsibility across live projects and ensuring works are properly valued, variations are captured, costs remain controlled and projects deliver the margins expected.
The business operates across highways, surfacing and associated civil engineering works, so we're particularly interested in Quantity Surveyors who understand fast-moving, operational contracting environments rather than purely traditional building construction.
The Role
As Quantity Surveyor, you'll take responsibility for the commercial management of projects from initial handover through delivery and final account.
You'll be involved in:
Managing the commercial performance of highways and civil engineering projects.
Preparing valuations, applications for payment and cost reports.
Identifying, pricing and managing variations and compensation events.
Monitoring project costs, forecasts, margins and cash flow.
Managing subcontractor procurement, accounts and payments.
Reviewing contracts and identifying commercial risks and opportunities.
Working closely with Contracts Managers, Project Managers and operational teams.
Ensuring completed works are accurately measured and commercially recovered.
Supporting tender handovers and reviewing project budgets.

What We're Looking For
We're interested in speaking with Quantity Surveyors from backgrounds including:

You'll ideally bring:
Previous Quantity Surveying experience within civil engineering or infrastructure.

Experience working with NEC contracts would be particularly valuable.
Confidence working directly with operational teams and clients.

Are you a CSA Project Director looking to take full ownership of major construction packages on one of the UK’s largest and most technically complex projects?
This is an opportunity to join a rapidly growing international main contractor delivering major projects worth billions across the UK and Europe. Based on a flagship project in Somerset, you will take a senior leadership position responsible for the successful delivery of significant CSA works, overseeing the project from planning and procurement through construction and final handover.

Rather than operating through multiple layers of corporate management, the company maintains a relatively flat structure where senior leaders have genuine autonomy, direct access to decision-makers and the ability to make fast commercial and operational decisions. You will be trusted to run your part of the project as a business, building and leading high-performing teams while maintaining relationships with the client, supply chain and wider project leadership.

Your role as Project Director – CSA will include:
Taking overall responsibility for the successful delivery of major CSA packages
Leading construction teams across civil, structural and architectural disciplines
Managing Senior Project Managers, Construction Managers, Package Managers and engineering teams
Taking ownership of programme, commercial performance, quality, safety and project delivery
Driving the project from pre-construction and procurement through construction, completion and handover
Managing major subcontractors and ensuring performance against programme and contractual requirements
Working closely with MEP, design, commercial, planning and commissioning leadership
Building strong relationships with the client, consultants and key project stakeholders
Identifying project risks early and making fast, commercially focused decisions
Reporting directly into senior business leadership on project performance
Developing the project team and identifying future leaders within the business
Supporting future project mobilisation as the company's UK and European pipeline continues to grow
The successful Project Director – CSA will need:
Extensive experience delivering major CSA packages for a main contractor
Project Director, Construction Director or senior project leadership experience
Strong civil, structural and/or architectural construction knowledge
Experience delivering large-scale, technically complex construction projects
Proven experience managing multidisciplinary construction teams and major subcontract packages
Strong commercial, contractual and programme awareness
Experience dealing directly with clients and senior stakeholders
Ability to take full ownership and make decisions in a fast-moving project environment
Strong leadership skills with a track record of building and developing successful project teams
Ability to work site-based in Somerset
