An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Full Stack Software Engineer to join a growing engineering team developing advanced software solutions for next-generation space missions.
This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the design, development and maintenance of high-quality software systems supporting critical space operations. You will work across the full software stack, developing reliable and scalable solutions within a mission-critical environment.
We are looking for a software engineer with strong full stack development experience and an interest in space technology. Experience within the space sector or adjacent industries such as defence, aerospace, telecommunications, automotive or other high-reliability environments would be highly beneficial.
Key Responsibilities
As a Full Stack Software Engineer, you will:
- Design, develop and maintain scalable backend services using modern programming languages.
- Build dynamic and responsive frontend applications using modern frameworks.
- Design, manage and optimise databases to ensure performance, reliability and data integrity.
- Develop and maintain containerised applications using technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Support the development and optimisation of CI/CD pipelines to improve software delivery processes.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to define, design and deliver new software capabilities.
- Troubleshoot and resolve software issues across the full technology stack.
- Participate in Agile development practices, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups and retrospectives.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of software engineering practices, tools and processes.
Essential Experience
The successful candidate will have:
- A degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- 2+ years experience developing software for mission-critical or high-reliability applications.
- 2+ years experience in full stack software development.
- Strong object-oriented programming experience using languages such as Java, Python or C++.
- Experience developing frontend applications using modern frameworks, ideally React.
- Experience working within Agile/Scrum development environments.
Technical Skills
Experience in some of the following areas would be highly desirable:
- Containerisation technologies including Docker, Kubernetes and Docker Compose.
- CI/CD tooling such as GitLab CI or GitHub Actions.
- SQL databases and data management.
- Git and modern version control workflows.
- Cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure.
- Software security best practices.
- Ground segment software systems.
- Space communication standards including CCSDS or ECSS protocols.
- Space data formats such as SCOS-2000 or XTCE.
