Purpose of the Structural Engineer
The Structural Engineer is responsible for making sure buildings and infrastructure are safe, stable and capable of carrying loads throughout their lifespan. Design structures so they can withstand forces and to calculate loads and stresses to ensure materials are used safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities of the Structural Engineer:
Design and analyse steel structures, steel elements, and connections.
Produce and review detailed engineering calculations (including hand calculations).
Conduct site visits to assess existing structures, gather data, and provide engineering input.
Collaborate with design, fabrication, and installation teams to ensure the project’s success.
Prepare technical structural reports, structural drawings, and specifications.
Ensure designs comply with relevant codes (Eurocodes), standards, and regulations.
Provide technical support during fabrication and site installation phases.
Essential Criteria of the Structural Engineer
Degree in Civil and/or Structural Engineering.
Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience in structural steel design.
