There are a variety of machines that are used to manufacture the components, ranging from manually operated machines such as lathes and milling machines to full CNC machines such as the Tornado (CNC lathe) and the Storm (CNC mill). Conducting preventative maintenance tasks on both production and site support facilitates equipment.
Finding fault with a component or device levels, determining whether the issue is hardware, software or firmware related.
Reactive maintenance activities for both production and site support facilitates equipment.
Use of a variety of tools and equipment to safely install electrical equipment and systems.
Activities to support production including the interrogation of electronic or programmable devices such as Siemens Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs) and drives; replacement of sensors and motors.
Activities to support the running of the facilities department including carrying out electrical testing, i.e. fixed wiring tests, earth continuity or bonding tests, inspection of substation and distribution equipment.
Working as an individual or as a member of a team in order to achieve result.

As a Control Systems Technician Apprentice you will operate in a modern manufacturing environment and be involved in fault finding and repair, planned maintenance and operating the robotic equipment used to manufacture our products. Other maintenance support roles arise within the function, such as planning, logistics and safety to manage the products through their expected service life.
Specific activities could include:
Fault finding on energised systems - including extra low voltage electrical.Programmable Logic Control (PLC) programming support to maintain production processes and industrial computers (IPC).Programming industrial 6 axis robots.Planned maintenance on mechanical and control production equipment such as extra low voltage electrical.Knowing, understanding and carrying out the basic operations of a machine to operate the machine safely.You will manage risk and repair the machine using common fault-finding techniques.Training:An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. As a Commercial Higher Apprentice, you will be involved in bidding, negotiating, drafting, supporting and delivering a number of contracts and commercial agreements that provide an overarching commercial framework ensuring that BAE Systems can deliver world-class capabilities to its customers.
You will be part of a team responsible for ensuring that contractual proposals to BAE Systems customers are priced, developed and approved in line with the corporate strategy.
To perform this role, you will undertake a 3-year commercial and procurement training programme, including academic learning and on the job training across multiple placements. Our Finance Degree Apprenticeship is designed as an entry level role into the Accountancy arena; you will study towards your CIMA qualification whilst doing a real job and earning a competitive salary from day one.
Through the five year scheme you will complete both a level 4 and level 7 apprenticeship working towards being fully CIMA qualified by the end of year 5. This will be alongside rotating through several teams in the function ensuring you cover off all core areas of Finance throughout the scheme. Study time will be offered to facilitate completion of the CIMA studies throughout the scheme.
