Working alongside dedicated mentors, our apprentices will assist with and learn about:
Manufacturing prototype components on various CNC machines.
Measuring prototype components using a range of manual and automatic metrology equipment.
Manufacturing and fabricating dedicated fixturing.
Using hand tools and manual workshop equipment, e.g., lathes, mills, grinders, and welding equipment.
Stripping, rebuilding, modifying, and rigging prototype heavy duty diesel engines.
Manufacturing and building dedicated test machines.
Supporting the maintenance and operation of test rigs, engine systems, diesel components, and related automotive hardware.
Assisting with instrumentation, sensor setup, wiring, calibration, and data acquisition tasks.
Conducting basic diagnostic and fault finding tasks on test rigs under supervision.
Supporting root cause investigations, test issue resolution, and engineering studies.
Collecting, logging, and presenting test data in line with departmental procedures.
Carrying out front-line maintenance and basic fault diagnosis within the limits of their training.
Communicate and liaise with other departments and all levels of management.
Work with your mentor on a training plan designed to cover the apprenticeship criteria and beyond.
Training:Level 3 Engineering Apprentices will spend the first year of their apprenticeship full time at our training provider’s Technical School, where they will have four days per week learning practical skills within a workshop environment and one day per week studying towards their Technical Certificate.
Years 2–4: The apprentice will move to a day release format (one day at the Technical School and four days at the Gillingham site) while working towards their Level 3 qualification. Key roles and responsibilities include but are not limited to assisting in the following and when fully trained to undertake:
To prepare artwork where necessary for print
To undertake colour sampling tests where appropriate
To operate print machines from preparation, loading correct media, setting up correctly, actioning the print run and monitoring the print to ensure a successful conclusion
To prepare, load and monitor print through the heat press where appropriate
To operate other machinery such as seam sealing machines and lathes
To help cut and prepare print for the sewing department to finish
To be able to help with and be fully involved in the assembly of the final products working in tandem with the sewing and finishing department
To ensure work is constantly self-checked for quality and so that any defects are spotted early in the process
To carry out end day, weekly and monthly maintenance on the print machines and presses

Summary:
Carboline is seeking a Technician to play a key role in bringing Carboline's products to life by expertly applying our industry-leading coatings to panels used by customers, Sales, and R&D. This hands-on role supports testing, product evaluations, and the creation of impactful sales aids that represent the quality of the Carboline brand.
Minimum Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of 1 year of painting or coating application experience.
Must successfully pass a Jaeger Eye Test.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds approximately 10% of the time.
Regular exposure to chemicals such as Amines, Polyamides, Isocyanates, Epoxies, Alkyds, and Acrylics.
Must complete an annual respirator medical evaluation and pulmonary function test as required by OSHA (respirator worn ~20% of the time).
Able to operate, maintain, and repair equipment-requiring handling, movement, and strong hand/eye coordination (~35% of the time).
Equipment includes, but is not limited to, airless pumps, blasting equipment, welding tools, and power hand tools.
Essential Functions:
Prepare panels for coating using a variety of tools-including hand tools, power tools, abrasive blast cabinets, and pin welders-and perform routine maintenance to keep equipment running smoothly.
Operate and maintain mixing equipment, airless sprayers, and conventional spray systems to apply Carboline products with consistency and precision.
Accurately document all panel production and, once certified, complete nuclear testing spray orders.
Maintain a well-organized inventory of standard panel systems to support internal and external requests.
Apply a working knowledge of coating technologies to ensure proper application, curing, troubleshooting, and issue resolution.
Partner with the R&D team on product evaluations, new formulations, and equipment trials.
Support Sales and Training teams by assisting with product and equipment demonstrations for customer schools, internal sessions, and hands-on training events.
Help maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment through daily housekeeping efforts.
Take an active role in hazard recognition and injury prevention by following all safety rules and reporting any incidents immediately.
Use basic computer skills-including Microsoft Office and email-to complete documentation and communication tasks.
Follow all environmental regulations and procedures to ensure hazardous materials and waste are managed responsibly.
Complete required annual training, including RCRA Hazardous Waste and Carboline's Contingency Plan, and apply this knowledge on the job.
