GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
The Mechanical Engineer provides engineering support to the assigned program and/or area to ensure the product is processed in accordance with customer and division quality requirements while maintaining production flow. Charged with developing and maintaining systems to ensure that all products manufactured by the plant meet customer specifications and achieve superior and reliability levels. Responsible for investigating and implementing new process technology at the plant. The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for maintaining, upgrading, and optimizing the plant. This position is responsible for influencing the development of preventative maintenance programs at the facility and will have a significant role in capital improvement plans while assisting in work area design, plant layout, visual control and metric implementation, material flow, process tracking, and communication.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Analyze statistical data and product specifications to determine standards and establish quality and reliability objectives of the finished product.
Participate in plant metric reporting.
Coordinate quality control objectives and activities as detailed in the facility site plan to resolve any production problems that may occur, maximize product consistency, and minimize cost.
Prepare estimates of production costs and production progress reports for management.
Design measurement and control systems for chemical plants based on data collected in laboratory experiments and in pilot plant operations.
Use SAP to monitor production/business functions.
Provides engineering expertise for all operations in the plant.
Must be the subject matter expert regarding all manufacturing equipment and processes at the plant.
Recommend modifications to current processes and equipment; document and follow up with process engineers responsible for the modifications.
Works with the plant engineers and maintenance to influence the direction of preventative maintenance best practices.
Support a high-performance results-oriented culture and maintain high standards of safety and compliance.
Provide technical and operational leadership for equipment and facility maintenance and improvements.
Deliver disciplined project management and product development assistance.
Regular review of batch first pass yield, production quality, distressed, obsolete, scrap, and returned material.
Troubleshoot and implement repeatability best practices.
Assist in the identification of capital requirements for the facilities' annual capital plans and budgets.
Lead investigations into equipment failures, difficulties, and deficiencies.
Interface with leadership, operators, and maintenance to ensure continuous improvement and continuous production.
Develop and streamline their critical metrics and assist when necessary.
Assist in the development of site metrics and KPI's Implementation and continued support of PIE.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Position Overview of Controls and Automation EngineerThe role will be working as part of the Maintenance Team providing ‘Hands-on’ Electrical & Controls Technical support to both Production and other internal functions throughout the Factory. PLC fault finding and modifications are vital skills to have for the role. You will be solely working with electrical installations, fault finding, and repair of PLC controlled machinery, within a manufacturing environment.Experience with breakdowns, fault finding, and changing of PLC parameters and working with Controls and Automation. Experience of installing servo drives and projects, capex improvements, HMI, and profibus is all required. Siemens S7 training is available.Within the position as Controls and Automation Engineer, you will have the opportunity to be involved with a wide of range of electrical maintenance operations and projects, which will be supported with a wide range of training opportunities, including accredited training programs.Experience and Qualification Required
Recognised Electrical Engineering Apprenticeship & Qualification or equivalent UK level 3 qualification – NVQ, City and Guilds AND BTEC 3 or HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering etc
PLC Fault finding experience and experience with breakdowns, fault finding, and changing of PLC parameters specifically.
The ability to work within a fast-paced manufacturing environment undertaking PPM and TPM activities
High degree of Health & Safety awareness.
Ability to fault find, repair and provide solutions to electrical machinery problems

An established engineering organisation is looking for a Hardware Engineer to design and develop bespoke electrical and electronic hardware for complex test systems across aerospace, defence, space and other regulated industries.
You'll work across the full engineering lifecycle, from requirements capture and design through to manufacture, integration, testing and customer acceptance. Working alongside multidisciplinary engineering teams, you'll have the opportunity to tackle varied technical challenges and take ownership of your designs.
Key Responsibilities
- Design electrical and electronic hardware for bespoke automated and manual test systems.
- Translate customer requirements into practical hardware solutions and system architectures.
- Select and integrate instrumentation, power supplies, data acquisition equipment and communications hardware.
- Produce electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, bills of materials and technical documentation.
- Support hardware procurement, manufacture, integration, fault-finding and testing.
- Contribute to verification, validation, commissioning and customer acceptance.
- Collaborate with software, systems, mechanical and production engineering teams.
- Identify technical risks, component obsolescence and opportunities to improve performance and reliability.
Essential Skills and Experience
- A degree, HNC/HND or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience in electrical or electronic hardware design.
- Good understanding of analogue and digital electronics.
- Experience with component selection, hardware integration and technical documentation.
- Practical fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
- Understanding of manufacturing, assembly and testing processes.
- Full UK-valid driving licence and right to work in the UK.
Desirable Experience
- Aerospace, defence, space or other regulated industries.
- Automated test equipment, rack-mounted systems or electrical cabinets.
- PCB design, FPGA or microcontroller technologies.
- Instrumentation, data acquisition, power electronics or EMC.
- LabVIEW, TestStand, National Instruments hardware or electrical CAD tools.
- Interfaces such as Ethernet, RS-232/422/485, CAN, SPI or I²C.
- Verification and validation, safety standards or legacy equipment modernisation.
