CNC Miller Team Leader Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled CNC Miller Section Team Leader / Machine Operator to join our dynamic client. In this key role, you will be responsible for leading and mentoring a team of machinists while also contributing directly to the production process.
CNC Miller Team Leader Responsibilities:
- Set and operate CNC milling machine tools.
- Setting of cutting tools, machine tool and work piece datums.
- Assess tool condition and maintain as necessary.
- Conduct self-inspection of work in accordance with planning layouts and customer drawings.
- Manage daily production requirements and address performance issues.
- Provide training for new or temporary employees.
- Undertake Return to Work interviews, conduct performance reviews, and ensure a safe working environment.
- Liaise with management regarding production issues and improvements.
- Hold team meetings and act on feedback received.
CNC Miller Team Leader Requirements:
- Proven experience in operating CNC milling machines, ideally with Mazak experience.
- Ability to produce high-quality, tight tolerance components in a variety of materials.
- Supervisory experience is highly desirable.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to safety.

THE CNC APPRENTICE WILL GAIN EXPERIENCE / KNOWLEDGE IN:
Setting, operating and programming CNC milling and CNC Turning machines to include 5 and multi axis machinesAttain an Engineering qualification from City and Guilds / HNC or similar
Speeds and feeds for different raw materials; controls; programming; safety and tooling
FANUC / Mazatrol control language
Lean Manufacturing
CMM inspection and manual measuring tools and techniques.
A FULLY COMPETENT AND QUALIFIED CNC APPRENTICE WILL HAVE THE ABILITY TO:
Program machine tools
Operate CNC milling and CNC turning machinery
Set fixtures and fittings
Working to tight tolerances
Use manual measuring equipment
Competently read manufacturing drawings
Training:Formal training is delivered at HWGTA located in Worcester (WR4 9GN):
Duration approximately 40-45 months.
Years 1/2 is a combination of off the job training at HWGTA Training Centre as well as training on site with your employer. This includes 29-42 weeks within the training Centre plus 1 day per week in a classroom setting to cover practical and theory aspects and complete EAL Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering - Development Knowledge
Years 3/4 based full time in company developing skills in preparation for the end point assessment to gain your Machining Technician Level 3 qualification.
Additional training for functional skills in English and maths will be undertaken if needed.
There is also a five-day teambuilding residential trip that is held in the spring of each year offered to all apprentices on programme.Training Outcome:

Your new role includes:
Prepare and operate CNC machines to perform tasks such as drilling, grinding, milling turning etc.
Set up mills and lathes by installing and adjusting three and four jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers; indicating vices; and tramming heads.
Plans stock inventory by checking stock to determine the amount available; anticipating needed stock; placing and expediting orders for stock; verifying receipt of stock.
Understand the specifications of the task at hand and the desired result by reading blueprints, mechanical drawings, etc.
Translate instructions into computer commands so the machines can perform the correct function
Prepare and load raw materials and parts onto the machines
Prepare a test run to check if the machines produce outputs according to specifications
Set machines to complete full cycles to fabricate a large number of parts
Supervise the machines while they execute the tasks and make any necessary adjustments to produce a better result
Inspect and measure finished products and compare them with requirements to determine if the process has been completed properly
Experience you need:
Machinist who can do fitting rather than a fitter who knows about machines.
Machine background, must be capable of using machines not just programming.
Experience with Milling and Lathe
Proven experience as CNC operator
Skill in operating CNC machinery and tooling as well as precision measurement tools
Ability to read and interpret mechanical documents and drawings
Computer savvy with basic understanding of computer programming and CAD/CAM
Mechanical aptitude and good math skills
A keen eye for detail and results-driven approach
Understanding of quality control principles
Good communication skills (verbal and written)
ONC or HNC from a technical
Successfully completed apprenticeship
