Role: CNC Operator/Machinist

Salary: £28,000 to £38,000 plus bonus and overtime

We're looking for a motivated CNC Operator/Machinist to join an established manufacturing team, producing high-quality precision components. If you enjoy working on varied, low-volume, high-precision parts and take pride in producing quality work.
The Role
Working within our busy toolroom, you'll be responsible for machining precision components used for tooling and customer projects. Every day offers something different, with a variety of bespoke and small-batch work.
Your responsibilities as a CNC Operator/Machinist will include:
- Producing complex, low-volume parts to exacting quality standards.
- Operating CNC lathes and milling machines to manufacture precision components.
- Working from detailed engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Maintaining high standards of quality, accuracy and safety.
- Helping to ensure customer deadlines are achieved.
- Collaborating with colleagues to support tooling, fixtures and production requirements.
About You
To be successful, you'll ideally have:
- At least one year's experience within a CNC machining environment.
- Experience producing small batches of precision-engineered components.
- A proactive attitude and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- The ability to confidently read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
Desirable Skills
It would be advantageous if you also have experience with:
- Working within an ISO 9001 quality management environment.
- Sliding head lathes.
- CAD/CAM programming software.
- LEAN or 5S manufacturing principles.
- Designing or manufacturing machine fixtures and jigs.

Key Responsibilities
Assist in setting up and operating CNC milling and turning machines
Learn to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
Support the production of precision parts to required tolerances and quality standards
Gain basic knowledge of CNC programming (e.g. G-code)
Measure and inspect components using tools such as micrometers, verniers, and gauges
Maintain a clean and safe working environment in accordance with health and safety regulations
Assist with machine maintenance and tooling changes
Work as part of a team to meet production targets and deadlines Training & Development
Work towards a recognised engineering apprenticeship qualification
Develop skills in:
o CNC programming and operation
o Tool selection and setup
o Material handling
o Quality control processes
Attend college or training provider sessions alongside on-the-job learning
Training:
On the job training will take place at the workplace 4 days per week
Off the job training will take place at New College Swindon 1 day per week
