Role
The Apprentice Engineer will be responsible for developing skills in the maintenance, and optimisation of mechanical systems.
Through hands-on training and mentorship, the apprentice will learn to support the:
Development
Installation
Maintenance of automated systems, robotics, and/or machinery while ensuring operational efficiency and safety.
The Apprentice Engineer will be expected to work towards and complete the apprenticeship program with a focus on self-development, progression, and ownership.
You will also be trained in a variety of welding disciplines to facilitate repairs to complex systems.
At the end of the program, they should aim to be a competent maintenance engineer and be able to work well as a key part of a shift team or alone on a multitude of equipment with minimal extra support.Training:Together with invaluable commercial and practical experience, you’ll gain several academic and vocational qualifications throughout your time with your employer and Make UK, which are fully paid for, including:

Who are responsible for facility and production up time by performing building and equipment upkeep, repairs and maintenance. Also rocket test installations, modifications and commissioning, applying fixes to equipment or building and ensuring facilities are tidy and functional.
This is a challenging role that requires a skilled welder fabricator but also includes practical building maintenance such as carpentry, electric, HVAC, plumbing, compressor and boiler maintenance, site vehicle upkeep, etc. Building upkeep will include painting, minor repairs to doors, windows, roofing, drainage, etc.

Job Role & Key Responsibilities:
The Maintenance Engineer will support all on-site engineering and maintenance activities, reporting directly to the Engineering Manager. The role focuses on ensuring plant, equipment, and infrastructure operate safely, efficiently, and with minimal downtime.
Key Responsibilities:
Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and respond to breakdowns promptly
Support equipment updates, new installations, and infrastructure improvements
Ensure all work complies with site health & safety procedures and engineering standards
Work closely with engineers on alternating shifts to ensure effective daily handovers
Diagnose faults and complete repairs safely while keeping production teams informed
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across plant and machinery
Identify recurring issues and assist in implementing long-term solutions
Report incidents, near misses, and hazards in line with safety policies
Maintain clear communication with production teams and engineering colleagues
The Ideal Candidate will have:
A recognised engineering qualification (mechanical or electrical)
Apprenticeship background with multi-skilled electrical and mechanical experience
