Over the length of the programme, you will:

As an integral part of your apprenticeship your progress will be monitored and assessed against government standard requirements. You will compile an evidence folder, demonstrating your areas of learning with accredited certificates of completion for elements of your training. Within the last six months of your apprenticeship, you will undertake an assessment by an independently appointed organisation, where you will be expected to clearly demonstrate your capability to perform in your chosen career.

Join our team as an Apprentice Maintenance Plumber and be part of an exciting period of growth within our safety-critical environment. You'll gain comprehensive training and hands-on experience in a wide range of plumbing systems and technologies. Throughout the apprenticeship, you'll work with various water and industrial gas systems, including oxygen, argon, and CO2 pipework. You’ll be trained in natural gas and LPG (Propane) to service and repair domestic and commercial appliances, such as boilers, air handling units, and humidifiers.
As an apprentice, you’ll develop skills in working with small to large bore pipework using different materials and jointing methods, including soldering and compression. Your role will involve conducting regular maintenance, both planned and reactive, to ensure the smooth operation of all equipment and systems. You’ll also play a crucial part in improving plant performance, supporting production teams, and adhering to Health & Safety best practices.
Your training will cover a variety of tasks, such as installing pipework with various fittings, performing oxygen odourise monitoring, and working with high-pressure air compressors and pneumatic systems. During the Maritime Electrical Fitter Advanced Apprenticeship, you will develop a range of different engineering skills and underpinning knowledge to successfully complete this apprenticeship. Throughout your apprenticeship you will gain valuable experience working on maritime vessels which will culminate in you completing your End Point Assessment.
The Maritime Electrical Fitter Apprenticeship has a typical duration of 48 months, the first year of which, is spent in our Skills and Development Centre located in Portsmouth Naval Base. During the first 12-months of your programme you will undertake a range of practical engineering activities that are supported by our dedicated Engineering Skills Coaches.
The Electrical Fitter must comply with statutory regulations and organisational safety requirements, and you will be trusted to work both independently and as part of a team. On completion of the apprenticeship, you will be able to work with minimum supervision, taking responsibility for the quality and accuracy of the work that you undertake and will be proactive in finding solutions to problems and identifying areas to improve business processes.

During the Engineering Higher Apprenticeship you will develop knowledge, skills and behaviours across a range of different engineering disciplines/placements. During this time you will gain valuable experience within electrical and mechanical engineering environments, which will culminate in you completing an End Point Assessment with a view of becoming an Engineering Technician.
The Engineering Higher Apprenticeship is a 3-year programme where you will spend time in a variety of areas within the business. You will undertake a range of engineering activities and gain valuable experience across the project lifecycle. During the first 2 years you will undertake a HNC in Engineering on a day release basis.
The first 3 months of your apprenticeship will be spent undertaking initial engineering, health and safety training in the Skills Development Centre located in Portsmouth Naval Base. On successful completion of this training you will commence your first placement within the business. With your assigned mentor (Electrical or Mechanical), view the workload for the day, whether it be Regular Planned Maintenance tasks such as testing of machine interlocks, topping up oil and grease points for machine bearings and motors, or Unplanned works (breakdowns/faults) such as machines not starting, or belts have come off some machines’ motor pulleys.
Plan in which order the work will be tackled and completed and obtain any documentation (Safety Permits) and parts that might be required, then progress to carrying out the work. As an apprentice, you will assist the skilled and qualified mentor in both types of repairs, being taught which equipment/tools to use and how to use them correctly to affect the repairs.
Complete paperwork and computer feedback on the work completed so that comprehensive and detailed information is recorded on the actions and repairs.
Assisting with the installation of wiring systems and electrical fixtures
Assisting and performing testing and diagnostics on mechanical and electrical equipment/machines
Assisting and performing routine maintenance tasks such as fire alarm testing and sprinkler pump testing.
Following electrical codes, blueprints, and standards to maintain safety and compliance
Collaborating with other mechanics and electricians to coordinate installations and repairs
Learning to read and interpret technical documents and drawings
Maintaining tools and equipment, ensuring they are in good working order
Participating in training sessions, workshops and Tool Box Talks (briefings) to enhance skills and understanding of the field
Ordering parts as required
Observing and learning from senior mechanics/electricians to build industry knowledge and skills
Completing daily/weekly log-book on information gained and tasks completed
(If full qualifications have yet to be attained) Attending College as regularly as required to complete formal academic training and professional qualifications
Training:
This would consist of a block release preferably 1 week per month
Training Outcome:
This is a permanent position. Those who successfully complete the apprenticeship and meet the standards required will have the opportunity to become a fully-fledged Multiskilled Maintenance Engineer with the commensurate associated salary.
