Training will be a blend of learning in the salon and attending Solihull College’s Aspire Hair training centre one day a week during term time, your trainers at the College are all hair care professional with years of experience in the industry, sessions in college will be a mix of learning new skills and the very important theory that supports this. Training Outcome:To complete training and progress into graduate stylist then working your way up the stylist ladder.Employer Description:Established in 1991, Simon Paul Hair & Beauty has gained a wealth of industry experience with a dedicated team of highly specialist staff. The salon, based in the heart of Knowle, Solihull, lead the way as the first designer hair salon in the area and quickly gained a reputation for top quality, innovative hair design – something which it maintains to this day. Reputation for quality hairdressing grew, and in 1994 the salon expanded into the premises above incorporating hair and beauty. The salon incorporated a contemporary but timeless look fitting to its village location. In 2002 we expanded our services to include a second salon in Drury Lane, Solihull and by 2008 we had opened our third location in Manor Walk, Touchwood. We recently decided to centralise the business and concentrate on the continued development of our flagship salon in Knowle. Training:You will be required to attend weekly college sessions to cover additional practical master classes, alongside structured theory sessions, to enable you to cover the Hair Professional Standard requirements.
Training will take place at Skills Group Training Academy, Derry's Cross, Plymouth. PL1 2SG.
The apprentice will gain:
Level 2 qualification in Hairdressing
Functional skills in maths and English (if required)
Training Outcome:
Having completed the Level 2 qualification, there will be an opportunity to work towards an Advanced Level 3 to further enhance your skills or to stay on as a full-time stylist

In exchange for the on-the-job training your duties include:
Making sure that the salon is always presentable
Washing the client’s hair and providing a scalp massage for each client
Cleaning styling sections as soon as the stylist is finished with them
Offering clients refreshments
End-of-day jobs such as hoovering and mopping to make sure that the salon is immaculate for the following morning
Watching the stylists closely to gather as much hairdressing knowledge as possible to ensure you can qualify as a stylist as efficiently as possible

The apprentice’s main day-to-day duties will include assisting stylists with their clients, mixing colour under supervision, shampooing clients, making refreshments and maintaining high standards of cleanliness and general housekeeping throughout the salon.
