FX Trading Technology | Canary Wharf, LondonContract Length3 to 6 months, with potential to extend to 12 monthsLocationCanary Wharf, London (4 days in the office, 1 day from home)Salary£27,000Start DateImmediateWorking Hours9:00am to 5:00pm, with some flexibility on start time (e.g. 8:00am starts)Reports ToHead of Operations and Business Management, with day-to-day supervision from a Quant on the teamInterview ProcessInitial interview (approx. 20 minutes) followed by a Python assessmentAbout the BusinessA leading Electronic Communication Network for global FX trading, forming part of a major exchange group. The business gives clients, including retail brokers, institutions, banks, hedge funds and proprietary trading firms, access to deep, diversified liquidity through award-winning, ultra-low-latency trading technology capable of handling thousands of clients simultaneously. The RoleThis is a hands-on internship working directly with the Head of Operations and Business Management, and supervised day-to-day by a Quant, on a focused, high-value automation project: replacing a manual invoicing and billing process with a robust, code-based solution.Today, this process involves pulling data from separate systems, applying exceptions logic, running multi-stage validations, and a significant amount of manual intervention to produce final files. You will learn the process in full, then build the Python tooling that makes it largely self-running.Key ResponsibilitiesWork closely with the operations team to map the existing invoicing process end-to-end: data sources, transformation logic, exception rules, validation steps and manual outputs.Translate that process knowledge into a clear technical specification for the automation solution.Build a Python-based pipeline that ingests data from multiple source systems, applies business rules and exception handling, runs the required validation checks, and generates accurate, client-ready invoices.Work with a large, data-heavy spreadsheet and encode its logic accurately in code, applying strong attention to detail throughout.Reduce manual copy-paste steps through scripted data transformation and output templating.Build a robust solution: handle edge cases, surface errors clearly, and keep outputs auditable.Document the solution clearly so it can be maintained, extended and handed over.Present progress at key milestones to the Head of Operations and other stakeholders. What We're Looking ForThis is not a software engineering role. We are not looking for a computer science background or formal software development experience, no specific university or degree subject is required. What matters is real, hands-on Python experience and a careful, detail-focused approach to working with data.Essential:Proven, hands-on Python experience, gained through real projects rather than coursework aloneComfortable working with Pandas; prior hands-on use is preferred.Strong Excel skills: able to open a complex, formula-heavy workbook built by someone else, understand its logic, and translate that into code.Experience working with large, detailed datasets, with the attention to detail needed to encode business logic accurately, including exception paths.A rigorous approach to validation: you design for edge cases, not around them.Clear communication: able to explain what you have built and why to a non-technical audience.Follows good coding practice and writes clean, readable, maintainable code.Preferred:Background or coursework in finance, economics, fintech or a related field is a plus, but not essential.ProcessA short initial interview (around 20 minutes) followed by a Python test. The assessment is not about completing every part of it. It is about how you approach the problem and the quality of the work you produce. ....Read more...

The two co founders of Adam Walsh and Mark Kilvington had spent over 40 years in the industry and over that time had seen it become a corporate money making machine where the customer was now coming second in order to fulfil the profit expectations of the international holding company owners. They brought in leading experts in the fields of Nick Dodds (Commercials), Nicholle Anderson (Customer Service) & Joseph Simpson (Sales) to assist in building a business that had to buck the trend of the word ‘fuel cards’ and start working for the client instead of the other way around. So, in an effort to go from poacher to gamekeeper they wanted to start a business that not only helped businesses secure a great deal for their fuel cards, but to manage and monitor it for them each week to ensure it stayed a great deal week on week. This would then mean businesses could avoid the hassle of having to swap and change every few months and jumping from the frying pan into the fryer. They setup contracted agreement with certain fuel card providers so that any Driving Down member that took out their cards would receive free cards for life, a contracted market tracking price & a lifetime guarantee of no fees or charges applied to the account. This meant customers could have the peace of mind their fuel cards were well looked after and managed. In time there also came a demand from clients to help and assist them manage their current fuel card provider. The hassle of switching cards and changing provider could be a logistical nightmare, so acting as their in house fuel card management would be more beneficial. So the team at Driving Down setup the ‘Fuel Management Partner’ package. So they could then work on the clients behalf each week to negotiate with their supplier to get them a better price to avoid being overcharged. They could analyse the invoices to find surcharges or fees that could be reduced or removed & in turn save the client significant amounts on their monthly fuel costs, plus taking away what is usual an arduous job within a business.Working Hours :Working hours 30 per week, Tuesday - Friday.Skills: Communication skills,IT skills,Attention to detail,Organisation skills,Customer care skills,Team working,Initiative,Non judgemental,Patience,Flexible,Good attendance record,Proactive,Telephony Skills,Confident ....Read more...

The business was renamed Brandwells Construction Co Ltd before it commenced trading. Joe and Andy had worked together in two previous employments, firstly at Avonmouth Plant & Construction Co. Ltd (APC) and later at Durnfords Construction Ltd (Durnfords), based in central Bristol. At APC, I was a trainee when first assigned to work under Joe, who was a senior Contracts Manager for the Company. Some years later, after I had had a spell as a Site Engineer for Holland and Hannen and Cubitts Ltd, we again came together when Joe left APC and took up the position of Managing Director at Durnfords Construction and invited me to join him as his Contract Manager. After about 7 years of working together, the Company was subject to a takeover, and this is what led to us jointly deciding to branch out on our own. The birth of Brandwells Construction. The company continued to grow and now has established itself as one of the foremost groundworks contractors in the South West, we have attained preferred contractor status with quite a number of our clients. Our clients now include most of the major housing developers: Barratt Homes, Lovell, Redrow, Taylor Wimpey, Linden and Bovis (now Vistry), David Wilson and Bellway as well as a number of smaller regional development companies. Where we are today There have been many ups and downs along the way, including recessions, the financial crisis of 2008 and most recently the Covid pandemic but the Company has managed to weather the storms and, thanks to the strong and dedicated team of people who make up the present-day management, not forgetting the now 300 plus operatives who actually do the work, we are stronger than ever. 2022 saw the opening of a South West Regional office at Alphington, Exeter to cope with the growth in our workload in this area and it was also a record year for the Company with turnover hitting an all-time high of over £62 million. 2023 promises to be another challenging year in the wake of the pandemic and as a consequence of the energy crisis brought on by the war in Ukraine, but from its position of strength there is every hope that we will see off that challenge as we have many times in the past.Working Hours :Monday- Friday.
