Building services engineers are responsible for ensuring that the electrical, mechanical and other systems within buildings work effectively and efficiently. Well-designed and maintained building services systems are essential in supporting people with their busy lives and help them maximise the benefits from their built environment.
Our design approach to Building Services Engineering is to understand the client’s brief, interrogate the needs and operation of the building and use innovative methods in the design process.
As buildings are responsible for over 40% of the world’s energy consumption, Building Services Engineers have an important responsibility to minimise carbon emissions, reduce energy consumption, adapt to regulatory change and deliver on the sustainability agenda.
Duties will include:
Working as part of a design team delivering detailed design.
Assisting with the creation of specifications and schedules.
Using specialist computer-aided design (CAD) and BIM (Revit) software and other resources to design the systems required for the project.
Site surveys and monitoring.
Attending design workshops and client meetings.
Liaising closely with other professionals, including structural engineers, architects, surveyors, and contractors of in-house and external project teams.
Report writing.
Producing asset registers.
Training:You will be studying a Level 4 apprenticeship in Building Services Engineering at the University of the Built Environment. Once complete you can progress to studying for your degree.

As a Degree Engineer Technician, we’ll work in partnership to create a personal development plan designed to focus on the specific learning and development needs associated with your role. You’ll gain exposure to a wide range of disciplines including bespoke technical training within Engineering placements around the business, aiding in development of mechanical and electrical systems in the Aerospace industry, with particular focus on Air to Air Refuelling and Actuation.
You must be able to work on your own initiative, and as part of a team and have an enthusiasm for learning as 6 years will be dedicated to your studies. Due to the rotational structure of the first 3 years, you will need to be an individual that embraces change and adapts to new situations successfully, with the confidence to ask questions and absorb information.
The structure of the Degree Apprentice programme will be as follows:
Year 1 & 2 - During your first two years, you will combine work based learning with day release study at Bournemouth and Poole College, completing the initial stages of the Product Design & Development (Mechanical Design) degree pathway.
While on site, you will take part in rotational placements designed to give you a broad understanding of the business and support the needs of your academic curriculum. These rotations will include gaining hands on experience within our shop floor environment to develop familiarity with our products and manufacturing processes, before moving into office based areas such as Production Support, Simulation and Modelling, Systems Test, Airworthiness, Avionics, and Design.
Year 3 - The rotational structure will continue, and you will be gaining experience within functional specialisms, for example, Research and Development, and Air to Air Refuelling and Actuation Integrated Project Teams on an extended placement structure. You will continue with your professional studies through day release at Bournemouth College, studying towards your 3rd year of your BEng.
Year 4 & 5 – From Year 4 onward, the rotational element is removed, and you will move into a permanent role aligned to your interests, strengths, and development expectations, as well as those needs of the business. Alongside this, you will continue with your remaining two years of academic study, working towards the completion of your full BEng degree at Bournemouth University.
Year 6 – In your final year, you will focus on finalising your preparation of the mandatory End Point Assessment, which evaluates the knowledge, skills, and behaviours you have developed throughout the programme.Training:Level 6 Product Design & Development Engineer Degree Standard.

The Gemini Apprenticeship Programme provides you with an exciting and challenging opportunity to achieve formal qualifications through extensive product training, while in full-time employment.
A Multi-Skilled Vehicle Accident Repair Technician repairs all elements of a vehicle after it has taken some type of collision damage.
This will involve learning the skills required to take an accident damaged vehicle through various stages of repair to the pre-accident condition.
These fall into three main areas of skills training:
MET-Mechanical, Electrical & Trim. Candidates will learn to refit processes of all main vehicle systems including air conditioning, vehicle alignment and Hybrid & Electric vehicle systems
Panel-repair. Candidates will learn to repair bodywork by replacing panels, filling defects and carrying out techniques such as welding, bond and riveting and correcting misalignment
Paint-surface repair
Candidates will learn how to prepare surfaces and carry out paint refinishing through the following techniques:
Sealing
Masking
Priming
Application of base coat & lacquer
Repairing defects and polishing
In addition to the above techniques, the employer will also provide successful candidates with additional training to achieve industry qualifications in the following techniques, throughout the programme:

Candidates will work towards achieving the Accident Repair Technician Apprenticeship Standard for the Automotive Bodyshop Industry at Level 3. They will also be required to study towards achieving level 2 maths and English functional skills if they do not already hold equivalent qualifications
Regular visits to the dealership from EMTEC Vocational Learning Advisors will take place, who will observe all evidence opportunities that occur naturally in the workplace
Candidates will be expected to engage in self-directed learning outside of normal working hours, which will be monitored and tracked through an online e-portal. Provide maintenance support for distribution systems, including conveyor belts, sorting machines, and automated storage systems. Working and supporting closely with the maintenance technicians as well as the ability to work autonomously.
Perform reactive and preventive maintenance on distribution equipment according to manufacturer guidelines and safety standards with appropriate support where required.
