The Business Administration Advanced Apprenticeship is typically 24 months (2 years) and aims to provide a highly transferable set of knowledge, skills and behaviours, which can be gained working within our organisation. The apprenticeship enables you to develop all business fundamentals such as functional processes needed in a wider working environment, and helps to create a good understanding the organisational structure of the business and how all the roles and departments are integrated and work together to produce the best results.
During the apprenticeship you will complete multiple different placements ranging from 3 to 6 months. Examples of placements you could do but not limited to, are: SHE (safety, health and environment), Business support, business improvement, supply chain - procurement, logistics, finance and Planning. Apprentices will primarily be in the role of a PSA (production support administrator) to support the Production Planning community as they transform Ministry of Defence work requirements into production ready tasks for our workforce to execute on ship.
Specific activities could include:
Ensuring all planning pre-requisites are met to allow orders to be progressed to production.
Creation of work packs ready for production to execute. This includes but not limited to printing drawings, documents, reference materials etc. as determined by Service Order references.
Raising change request notifications as directed by the Planning Manager.
Engaging in and running team meetings · Shadowing other members of the team to develop a greater understanding of their roles and responsibilities

Working in Project Control means you will be the beating heart of a given project, ensuring that the plans, schedules and risk management is in place for the project. Analysis of the progress against those plans and schedules will be your responsibility; providing regular updates and recommendations to the wider project team.

Our Level 4 Finance Higher Apprenticeship scheme aims to develop A-level or equivalent qualified individuals into Chartered Management Accountants with a broad understanding of all aspects of finance and how these fit into the wider business organisation. Year 1:
You will undertake your training at the Aircraft Maintenance Academy in Humberside.
You will complete your Level 2 apprenticeship standard.
You will be trained in both practical and theory-based engineering.
You will learn the basics to give you a grounding for completing your placements in engineering.
One day a week at college.
Years 2, 3 and 4:
Most placements will be office/home based using computer based tools with interaction with our customers, suppliers and aircraft.
You will continue with academic studies and learning, this includes completing a HNC in aeronautical engineering which will require 1 day a week at college.
You will complete six placements across various programmes within the Air business.
The six placements will give you the opportunity to gain experience in a variety of engineering areas including design, systems, in-service support, flight test, mission systems and integration.

Within Test & Commissioning you will be working as part of a wider team that tests and commissions the Astute & Dreadnought class submarines. This is one of the final phases of boat build and ensures that the mechanical and electrical systems are built to their design intent and function safely and reliably.
As a degree apprentice you will be working alongside qualified engineers on the Reactor Systems to support these tests that are essential for the submarine safe operation.
During the programme individuals will be working towards becoming a qualified and competent commissioning engineer and studying Nuclear Engineering at University.
Specific activities could include:
Working closely with the Operations build teams to verify that the systems have been installed to the appropriate workmanship quality standards. The Installations are checked for any defects and for any bespoke installation requirements such as those to facilitate commissioning tests
Carrying out system walk downs to ensure the systems conform to the installation documentation. This is an essential layer of protection to ensure the plant has been installed correctly to the design intent
Commissioning the systems by testing the system's functionality. In the early commissioning phases this includes testing individual plant items and plant systems within boundary conditions. In the later commissioning phases the plant systems are tested as fully integrated systems as per design intent
Commissioning the plant includes flushing, pressurising and energising the systems to check for defects, functionality and also to check that plant operating parameters are within specification and tolerance
Achieving safety from the system by applying electro mechanical plant isolations and dissipating any stored energy in order for the plant to be worked on safely
Training:
Nuclear scientist and nuclear engineer (integrated degree)

Providing innovative design solutions to a diverse range of communications and marketing campaigns

As a Welding Apprentice you will be involved in using skilled techniques to make high strength joints, you will use two or more welding processes to join a number of different metals. You will be required to meet the level of quality and inspection required in safety critical work.
You’ll carry out various tasks ranging from pipe welding using gas tungsten arc welding through to structural welding using flux core arc welding techniques with the finished welds are often subjected to rigorous inspection and testing.
Welders work on the main structures of a submarine ranging from the outer hull and internal structures such as bulkheads and decking, to the missile tubes and Nuclear Reactor casing. Structural welding processes include manual Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) and manual Metal Active Gas Welding (MAG). For those chosen to specialise in structural welding you will progress on to mechanised FACW, robotic & mechanised MAG and mechanised Submerged Arc Welding (SAW). All welding work undergoes rigorous testing to ensure it meets the high standards expected.
Welders working on Pipe work are trained in manual Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding for ferritic, stainless, nickel and copper alloys. The demanding access limitations requires being trained in mirror welding, a technique very few welder learn outside of the company. For those chosen to specialise in pipe welding you will progress on to semi – automatic TIG pipe welding (orbital) and are responsible for welding large & small bore pipes in numerous materials.

During the Engineering Higher Apprenticeship you will develop knowledge, skills and behaviours across a range of different engineering disciplines/placements.
