As an apprentice, you’ll work at Murray Tech and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff. The apprenticeship tasks/focus will be around training in all aspects of control systems as well as gaining extensive knowledge of engineering materials.
Apprentices will be working as part of the team, working to complete the requirements of the Fitter Standard. To ensure you gain the experience you will:

Training:Apprentices will undertake a Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard programme. This will include a full-time period of practical workshop based ‘off-the-job’ training at SETA’s Apprenticeship Centre in Southampton.
You will also begin a knowledge qualification (depending on your prior attainments) where you will be required to attend SETA one day a week over two academic years.
After your initial training at SETA, you will be with your employer working on developing your skills; ultimately leading to your End Point Assessment.
SETA will make regular visits during this period of time to ensure you will covering all the required aspects of the Standard, which includes a practical element, a theory test and a professional discussion, regarding the work achieved with your employer.
These final tests are administered by an independent assessment organisation and take place in the last three months of the apprenticeship.Training Outcome:Once the apprenticeship has been completed there are plenty of opportunities for further training and personal development.

Liaising with production regarding the status of any setting out activities.
Check the package of working drawings for errors in cut-off levels, beam lengths and numbers and overall constructional soundness.
Prepare and manage the setting out of the pile positions using a total station, either personally or by a subcontract engineer. Establish independent site control to reference the given setting out points.
Attend pre-start meeting with subcontractor to finalise the programme of works.
Checking accuracy of works and constructional quality control of finished product.
Comply with all QA and Health and Safety obligations.
Maintain the professional progressive image of the company.

The role is that of a learning role, where alongside your apprentice (Level 6) degree, you will also learn by way of hands-on experience by working on live fire engineering projects, and putting into practice the lessons you learn during your time at university.
Some key areas that you will perform are:
Developing your understanding of fire engineering and the role of the fire engineer on projects ranging from inception through to practical completion and into the buildings’ operational life
