During the Maritime Mechanical Fitter Advanced Apprenticeship, you will develop a range of different engineering skills and underpinning knowledge to successfully complete this apprenticeship. This Level 6 apprenticeship will give you practical, real-world experience working on electrical and mechanical systems across our Submarine Commissioning Group.
You'll work on the commissioning of nuclear submarines, learning how to perform critical tasks such as system installation, operation, and maintenance, alongside fault diagnosis and rectification.

On the Nuclear Engineering Degree Apprenticeship Scheme at BAE Systems Submarines, you will be part of a team working on some of the biggest nuclear engineering projects in the world.
The nuclear degree apprenticeship is a truly cross-functional scheme working across multiple and varied nuclear areas at Barrow.
The nuclear scheme offers a mix of office, production and submarines based placements, which daily allow you to be involved with the many mechanical engineering activities required within the nuclear build and manufacturing environment. These diverse placements enable you to develop and use project management skills, as you support the safe construction and delivery of another quality nuclear capability.

Maintain a clean and tidy manufacturing area by seeping and cleaning the floor areas, emptying bins, clearing up general rubbish. Monitor and remove daily swarf bins from the machines and dispose of swarf into separate re-cycling skips i.e. swarf is split into different metals skips, solid materials, plastics etc.Report any coolant or oil leaks to supervision / maintenance team. Remove coolant and clean out machine sumps and wet vacuum hoovers to be cleaned out in line with TPM frequency requirements. Clean the outside of machines on a regular basis with the appropriate cleaning materials. Notify supervision when the main skips are nearing full capacity for replacements to be delivered.Maintain a clean and tidy back yard area at all times. Undertake any other duties as required together with general housekeeping and cleaning duties in order to provide a safe and efficient working environment.

As a Project Management (Cost Estimating) Degree Apprentice, you will be part of the Commercial function working closely with all areas of the business to collate and justify costs, create estimates for future work and manage change. You will work across a broad spectrum of tasks from facility business cases to design studies to whole boat pricing.
By collaborating with other areas of the business to appreciate what they do, why they do it, and the associated costs, you will gain an excellent understanding of the Submarines business and how it operates. You will build your knowledge of the cost of materials, the cost of labour required for building and testing the product, and associated risks and opportunities. You will learn about profit rates and the effects of inflation on a long-term programme.

As an apprentice scaffolder, you'll spend three and a half years receiving comprehensive training whilst you work as part of a qualified and competent scaffolding team. You will be trained to take responsibility for the safe construction and dismantling of working platforms at our sites.
You will undertake a CITB Scaffold training course, which involves attending a two week block of scaffolding training four times a year at an approved training provider in Blackburn, you will gain further evidence for this working in the workplace production environment. You will learn the basic skills of using relevant hand tools and machinery together with Health & Safety requirements for your role before progressing on to more in depth training in the use of scaffolding systems and techniques.
As an apprentice scaffolder you will receive comprehensive training in an on-the-job and off-the-job environment. This training will combine both the skills and knowledge you will require to qualify you as a scaffolder, capable of constructing and dismantling standard and bi-spoke working platforms at low levels and at height. As a Data Analyst Apprentice you will experience, learn and develop key skills to help you manage complex projects.
You will help to ensure that the project you are assigned to stays on track by conducting a range of analytical studies.
