The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out a full range of repair, maintenance, and servicing on our operational fleet, as well as external customer vehicles, in accordance with legislative requirements, manufacturer standards, and company policies.MOT Tester / Light Goods Vehicle Technician Key Responsibilities
Conduct MOT testing for Class 4, 5, and 7 vehicles, as well as suitability tests for Hackney Carriages and Private Hire Taxis.
Carry out repairs, maintenance, and servicing on a variety of vehicles, plant, trailers, and equipment.
Ensure all vehicles are roadworthy, safe, and compliant with DVSA and the clients regulations
Diagnose faults using modern diagnostic equipment and carry out necessary repairs
Perform bodywork repairs, panel beating, and engineering fabrication as required.
Conduct welding (gas/electric), brazing, and soldering as needed.
Complete LOLER inspections and testing in accordance with legal requirements.
Attend roadside breakdowns to perform repairs or recover vehicles to the workshop.
Test drive vehicles to assist with diagnosing faults and post-repair quality checks.
Carry out minor repairs to the in-house fleet when no MOT tests are scheduled.
Essential
Time-served technician with significant experience or an NVQ Level 3 qualification in a relevant field.
DVSA-recognized MOT Tester Certificate for Class 4, 5, and 7 vehicles
Strong knowledge of MOT testing standards, procedures, and vehicle maintenance.
Understanding of Health & Safety regulations, road traffic laws, and statutory vehicle requirements.
Experience using diagnostic tools and computer-based maintenance management systems.
Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
Excellent communication skills and a professional approach to customer service.
A full driving license is required.
Additional Information You will be responsible for conducting MOTs on all local taxis and some private customer vehicles, with approximately eight MOTs booked per day. What to Expect:
You’ll learn both on the job and during intensive residential training weeks at college. All accommodation, travel and subsistence is paid for during the block weeks and you’ll start off with three weeks in college, returning home each weekend. This will prepare you to fully contribute as soon as you get on site.
You will then return to college approximately every 20 weeks, for a two-week block of intensive training – where you’ll be earning all the time. At the end of your Intermediate Apprenticeship, you’ll have more experience and valuable job skills, plus a nationally recognised apprenticeship qualification - but that’s just the beginning!
