A Berthon marine engineer apprentice will learn how to install and maintain all the mechanical systems onboard private luxury sail/ motor yachts and small commercial vessels including Royal Navy vessels. You will learn how to install engines, outboards and generators and their associated systems.
You will learn how to install a variety of mechanical systems including – Propulsion systems (Shafts and propellers, jet drives, outdrives, sail drives), fresh water systems, bow and stern thrusters, air conditioning and heating. You will learn how to make and repair components, learn to fabricate and weld in aluminium and stainless steel, pipefitting and how to machine components.
You will also learn how to service, diagnose faults and repair a variety of different mechanical boat systems including, engines, generators, propulsion systems, winches and windlasses.
