THE ROLE
We are currently seeking a SENIOR GEOTECHNICAL / GEOENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEER to join our client based in Sheffield.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing firm of consulting engineers who offer the right candidates interesting projects to work on and good prospects for promotion.
You will be able to work on geotechnical and land contamination projects across a range of sectors which includes infrastructure, development & regeneration, energy and also projects for local authorities.
You will be responsible for projects from planning stages to doing project investigations and duties will include data interpretation, reporting, design, site supervision of remediation and earthworks projects and more.

THE CANDIDATE
You will need to have experience of the following:-
Undertaking Preliminary Risk Assessments along with intrusive site investigations.
Planning & managing Phase 2 investigations complying with all health and safety matters and complying with CDM requirements.
Procurement of sub-contractors.
Doing supervision of drilling and excavation works plus undertaking gas and groundwater monitoring plus groundwater and surface water sampling.
Experience of geotechnical design which will include slope stability and settlement analysis.
Experience of the supervision of remedial and earthworks projects.
You must have excellent report writing skills and be able to prepare earthworks specifications and remediation strategies and do validation reports on completed works.
You will also be supporting management producing fee proposals supporting documentation.
You will need some experience of supervising less experienced engineers.
You need to have knowledge of OpenGround logging software.
You must have a BSc in Geology, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science or similar and a further MSc would be advantageous.
You are likely to either be working towards becoming chartered or have already achieved chartered status.
You need to have around seven years of more relevant experience, some of which must have been spent working for a similar engineering consultants in the U.K.
A full UK driving licence is required along with your own vehicle to enable you to attend meetings and get to sites, some of which may be fairly remote.

Cloud Telephony Support
Create, amend, and maintain cloud-based telephone system configurations
Process customer requests such as:
Name changes
Call routing updates
User and extension management
Perform basic system changes on live environments, following agreed processes
Assist users with:

Learning & Development
Gain hands-on experience supporting live customer systems
Learn structured troubleshooting and escalation processes
Shadow senior engineers and gradually assist with more complex technical issues

Build a strong foundation for progression into a 2nd Line Support role

Reporting to a machine shop Team Leader, as an apprentice aligned to the machine shop function you will be learning and developing the skills required to use a range of CNC machines including 3, 4, 5, and 10 axis equipment.
You will be given the opportunity to gain the necessary skills to be able to set and operate different machine types and carry out total preventative maintenance (TPM) activities, develop the skills required to create programs and understand the different cutting techniques required for the multitude on materials required to produce world leading media transfer systems.

The Role of the Maintenance Coordinator:
You will take ownership of the site's facilities, services, and utilities, ensuring safe, compliant, and reliable day-to-day operations. Your responsibilities will include carrying out and coordinating statutory inspections, emergency lighting tests, fire alarm testing, compliance checks, CCTV maintenance, ladder inspections, and other essential site safety activities.
Working closely with the Lead Engineer, you will play a key role in maintaining operational excellence and ensuring the site remains fully compliant and audit ready.
Key Responsibilities of the Maintenance Coordinator:
Own and coordinate all site facilities, services, and utilities, ensuring safe, compliant, and reliable day-to-day operations in line with the company’s standards and all legal and statutory requirements.
Oversee integrity of buildings and utility infrastructure, including electrical systems, HVAC, water, and compressed air, coordinating inspections, maintaining facilities and utilities, and upgrades through competent external contractors.
Manage external service providers and contracts, including cleaning, mobile equipment, and statutory inspections, ensuring service quality, SLA compliance, cost control, and effective issue resolution.
Maintain robust compliance and governance processes, ensuring inspections, certificates, service reports, RAMS, insurance documentation, and close-out records are accurate, traceable, managed within the CMMS, and approved before work begins.
Support site engineering and infrastructure projects by collaborating with engineering teams on utilities planning, improvement projects, and breakdown response while minimising operational disruption.
Essential Criteria of the Maintenance Coordinator:
Minimum HNC (or equivalent) qualification in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related technical discipline.
Proven experience managing site services, utilities, and contractors within a process safety-led manufacturing environment, with a strong understanding of statutory compliance.
Demonstrable experience in EHS and contractor management, including Permit to Work (PTW) systems, RAMS review, and contractor insurance and policy compliance, maintaining audit-ready standards.
Excellent organisational, planning, and scheduling skills, with the ability to ensure statutory inspections and routine site services are completed on time.
Strong communication skills, with experience managing service level agreements, coordinating internal stakeholders and external contractors, and monitoring performance.
Competent in Microsoft Office, SAP, and CMMS systems, with a sound mechanical and electrical understanding.
Experience working within an ATEX environment or a good understanding of ATEX regulations.
