The Role
The Apprenticeship provides the knowledge, skills and experience needed for the role of a Design Engineer.
Once qualified you’ll support our Project Engineers and site teams with machine assembly and overall production line factory design, considering H&S, regulatory and legal requirements and process flow ergonomics.

The apprentice will work under the supervision of several engineers on the delivery of Overhead Line Electrical (OLE) engineering projects. They will contribute to the delivery of preliminary and detailed designs for prestigious rail infrastructure projects. Typical tasks and activities include:
· Contributing to designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings and final working drawings under the close supervision of an engineer.
· Drafting technical reports discussing assessment or management of client projects.
· Undertake a supporting role to Project Managers, assisting with document management including drawing registers, hard copy and electronic drawing filing and document issuing (including online collaboration sites).
· Participating in the resolution of technical issues
· Becoming familiar with, and compliant with, relevant H & S regulations and to promote a culture of awareness within the team.
· Building relationships with Clients on projects.
· Undertake on the job training on a range of industry leading tools and procedures, and, along with the learning from their part-time degree course, apply these skills to ongoing project activities.Training:On this apprenticeship you will complete the BSc Rail & Rail Systems Engineering (Electrical & Mechanical Pathway) with Sheffield Hallam university. GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB: The Engineer's role is viewed as an extension of management. Responsibilities are broad and include safety, product quality, process control, productivity improvement, and development of a LEAN culture. The Engineer is expected to spend a significant amount of time on the floor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Safety Assume a leadership position at the facility in partnership with the shift supervisors. Activities include resolution and communication regarding safety issues. Execute on scheduled PHA's and JSA's. Proactively monitor area and remediate potential safety issues. Use DAKOTA software as a tool for compliance and environmental, health and safety. Use the tool to report incidents, near misses, and non-conformances.
LEAN Culture Develop and execute upon "standard work" activities. Assume responsibility for assigned activities on the Engineering Tier and other accountability boards. Conduct "GEMBA Walks" daily. Use walks as the primary means of education and communication of expectations. Improve productivity through elimination of non-value-added activities. Apply Engineering principles and methodologies to Improve productivity and eliminate waste.
Product Quality Work to maximize equipment efficiency and quality for output. Member of the facility QIC. Ensure identification of root cause and subsequent prevention of future customer complaints. Assist in the training of operators with a focus on quality critical product specifications and process parameters. Capable of equipment troubleshooting and process design.
EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree from four or 5-year college or university. B.S. in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical or Controls Engineering.
EXPERIENCE:
Six months to one year related experience and/or training. Bachelor's Degree (B.S.) in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical or Controls Engineering from an ABET Accredited university. Relevant experience from internship is acceptable for experience. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Six Sigma Green Belt is a plus. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

During the Engineering Higher Apprenticeship you will develop knowledge, skills and behaviours across a range of different engineering disciplines/placements. During this time you will gain valuable experience within electrical and mechanical engineering environments, which will culminate in you completing an End Point Assessment with a view of becoming an Engineering Technician.
The Engineering Higher Apprenticeship is a 3-year programme where you will spend time in a variety of areas within the business. You will undertake a range of engineering activities and gain valuable experience across the project lifecycle. During the first 2 years you will undertake a HNC in Engineering on a day release basis.
The first 3 months of your apprenticeship will be spent undertaking initial engineering, health and safety training in the Skills Development Centre located in Portsmouth Naval Base. On successful completion of this training you will commence your first placement within the business. During your third and final year, you will complete an End Point Assessment to confirm that you have gained the required knowledge, skills and behaviours, to successfully complete the apprenticeship.
Specific activities could include:
Electrical Engineers will produce engineering drawings, data and documentation in order to facilitate the manufacture, installation, testing, commissioning, fault diagnosis, maintenance, overhaul and removal of electrical and data systems on maritime vessels. This covers propulsion machinery, weapons, sensors, and auxiliary systems (such as water, air conditioning, electronic equipment including programmable logic controllers, power generation and distribution).
The role requires knowledge and expertise of the design and use of electrical, electronic and combat systems to ensure safe embodiment of Capability Insertions.

Responsibilities
Provide process engineering support for raw materials, compounding, production, and packaging functions to improve safety, and support the MS 168 continuous improvement process.
Production Support
Support daily production needs through process troubleshooting, experimentation and support for production requirements.
Continuous Improvement
Lead continuous improvement projects to reduce cost, increase material utilization, improve first time right, integrate new products/processes into production and reduce variation. Implement necessary changes and update all documentation (including drawings and SOP's) accordingly
Capital Plan
Coordinates with plant engineer to oversee capital projects necessary for the continued improvement and modernization of the plant. Ensure completion of projects within budgets.
Safety

MS 168
Support the tier meeting process by the implementation and analysis of data collection and visual management systems.

Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial engineering 2+ years' experience in manufacturing environment. Six Sigma/lean manufacturing experience. Understanding of process control methods, flowmeters, level monitors, and other process controls within a batch manufacturing process. Ability to read and interpret process drawings (process flow diagrams and P&ID's). PLC with ladder logic analysis. Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills. PC usage with MS Office Suite (AutoCAD experience a plus), strong interpersonal skills, good communication skills both written and verbal.

The role
As a Senior Marine Operations Engineer, you will be involved in all aspects of marine surveys to include Metocean field engineering activities. The engineer will be the lead person managing the deployment and recovery of Metocean equipment, both moorings and subsea components while also acting as the offshore client liaison.
The role of a Senior Marine Operations Engineer is varied and offers the opportunity to work on projects for offshore wind farms, renewable energy, and oil & gas. This position will suit experienced an aspiring party chief from a similar background, geophysical or seismic surveys who is looking for a more varied career. The projects range from one or two days to longer trips of up to four weeks with the potential to work all over the world. Our engineers are involved in a mixture of offshore and coastal vessels, drilling platforms and onshore installations. As no two projects are the same, you will need to be resourceful and flexible and enjoy working in a fast-paced and challenging environment. Additionally, you will also be asked to add your experience to project planning. This role can be based out of our Wallingford, Oxfordshire office and Portchester, Hampshire office. This may also be an offshore role based on fixed number of days offshore for the right candidate.
Who we’re looking for:
Essential
It is essential that you have previous experience in a similar role (deck operations on a vessel).
Previous offshore experience on a variety of projects (or similar type work) and willing to work offshore for approximately 2 to 3 weeks at a time, within UK, Europe and Africa.
Experience deployment of marine monitoring instrumentation equipment (or similar) and proficient in the setup and operation of commonly used sensors (training will be provided).
Knowledge and understanding of lift plans.
Good at problem solving, enjoy tackling technical challenges.
The ability to work to strict deadlines within short notice changes.
A systematic and methodical approach with a fine attention to detail.
Excellent communication and language skills in English (reading, written and spoken).
Full driving licence.
Experience of Managing small teams
Experience of acting as a client liaison
Desirable
BSc degree or above in oceanography, science, instrumentation, engineering, electrical or mechanical.
Understand the principles of real-time data, data acquisition and data QC and are proficient in the use of software.
