My client is a small family-run agricultural business who are known in the commercial growing industry. They are currently looking for a skilled and motivated Maintenance Fitter to maintain and service their machines and keep the factory, workshop and packing room running smoothly.
The Role - Maintenance Fitter
- Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of farm machinery and equipment such as tractors, harvesters, irrigation systems, and conveyors
- Perform scheduled servicing and preventive maintenance to avoid breakdowns and prolong the lifespan of the equipment
- Diagnose mechanical faults and carry out repairs
- Troubleshoot issues with engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems, and replace defective parts as necessary
- Ensure that machinery is used correctly and safely by all operators
- Fabricate or modify parts and equipment using welding, cutting, and machining tools
- Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs performed, and parts used
- Follow and develop TPM/PPM schedules for all equipment
- Work closely with farm managers and other staff to coordinate maintenance activities and minimise downtime
- Daily meetings to align on the duties for the day ahead
Minimum Skills / Experience Required - Maintenance Engineer
- Previous experience as a Maintenance Fitter or Mechanical Engineer with a mechanical bias
- Has previous hands-on experience with chains, bearings and conveyors
- Experienced in repairing, servicing or maintaining agricultural/quarry/plant/manufacturing or industrial machinery
- Experience as an Agricultural Engineer would be advantageous
- Strong background in PPM schedules and developing them
- Qualifications within maintenance and engineering is desirable
- Good communication skills both written and verbal

About the role of Mechanical Fitter
As the Mechanical Fitter you will ensure that all tasks are conducted to good Health, Safety and Environmental practices, in line with company policies. You will be responsible for the routine maintenance, repairs and commissioning / testing of the site equipment, ensuring correct completion of jobs.
Key Responsibilities:
Completion of daily work to suitable standards using CMMS job sheets for routine maintenance, repairs and commissioning / testing of the site equipment ensuring correct completion of jobs.
Participate in MOC discussion reviews, hazard studies, risk/task assessments and accident investigations as required.
Work with engineering supervisor to ensure that all mechanical based project plans, improvements, repairs and shutdowns are performed to the appropriate standard / timescales.
Identify appropriate repairs / upgrades and routine maintenance requirements are undertaken to maximise and maintain plant availability and efficiency.
Contribute as required to the scoping and installation of capital projects including the provision of labour, supervision of contract labour, technical / process data and thorough commissioning, snagging and hand over of installed equipment.
Essential Criteria of the Mechanical Fitter
Mechanical Fitting Qualifications (Apprenticeship etc.)
Minimum of two years industry experience
Engineering knowledge along with suitable practical experience for both trouble shooting and installation work
Previous experience of working in Highly Hazardous Environments (COMAH / ATEX)

The apprenticeship programme takes approximately three years to complete, and you’ll spend your first 12 weeks being inducted onto the programme at one of our Training Centres. You’ll earn while you learn and develop your knowledge, skills and behaviours to become a Power Networks Craftsperson, achieving a City & Guilds Level 2 Qualification in Electrical Engineering. Your Training will include periods of on-the-job training and development, learning from an experienced and qualified Fitter. A Power Networks Fitter has responsibility for the safe construction, maintenance and repair of the electrical power network. You’ll work on distribution systems up to 66kV (or 132kV if in a Projects team). Fitters are fitting engineers who work in and around substations, using electrical knowledge and skills to install and maintain high voltage plant and apparatus including transformers, switchgear, and cable terminations.
You will represent National Grid and carry out work handed down by other areas of the business.

Our people in Network Services work across a number of teams to keep the lights on for our customers. They might be helping a customer who has lost supply or supporting a developer building a multi-million pound project.
