Throughout your apprenticeship, you will experience and learn how to set and operate CNC machinery, create and edit CAD/CAM programs, accurately read and interpret drawings and customer requirements, and assess and accurately evaluate your own work. We have a total staff of around 35 employees, so you get to be part of the team.
Duties will include:
Setting and operating our CNC machines
Ensuring that all production requirements are maintained in line with daily plans
Monitoring and maximising machine outputs and reports
Ensuring all quality inspection checks are made throughout manufacture and in accordance with procedures
Ensuring all paperwork is accurately completed and filed in the relevant place
Always adhering to the Company’s hygiene and quality standards
Ensuring that the correct cleaning procedures are followed and recorded
Complying with all legal requirements in respect of Health & Safety of self and others
Demonstrating good employee relations within the team and with other departments

CAD / CAM Technician
Job descriptionTo use CAD/CAM software to create models of master parts. Responsible for the manufacture of ‘Master Hobs’ which will provide the optimum punch tabletting face for the highest quality tablets and trouble-free production, according to customer requirements.
The successful candidate should have:• Use CAD/CAM software to create models and programmes of master parts for the manufacturing of tablet compression tooling.• To carry out the manufacture of parts, working from master tablet tooling designs and drawings.• To operate the die mould CNC milling machine.• To carry out inspection and visual validation using various measuring equipment and vision systems. Including but not limited to micrometres, Vernier callipers, bench clocks, contour tracers, shadow graphs and digital cameras.• To finish and polish fine detailed embossing and other features to a high accuracy, meeting manufacturing specifications.• To complete process checks and update schedules using various applications within Microsoft 360.• To support downstream engineering processes.• To support on other machining operations if required.

Evaluate solutions and costs for customer enquiries
For punch tooling there is often more than one solution for the manufacturing of the product and also limitations as to what can be produced. Possible solutions need to be discussed with our customers explaining the cost / benefits
Discuss tooling technicalities and solutions with the factoryUnderstanding the manufacturing process that our factory
uses to make the tooling – discuss manufacturing issues with the factory staff
Discuss directly with overseas factories the UK customer tooling requirements
Discuss with the French and Japanese factories any technical issues and delivery problems that might occur
Produce technical quotations for the proposed solutions for customers
Complete tooling quotations including technical specification, drawings and pricing for our demanding customers
Learn the basic programming language for the Amada Turret Punch Press
Learn how to create simple programs, using machine programming language to run the Amada Turret Punch Presses
Produce samples and complete tests for punch tooling in the Amada showroom
Using basic programming skills test punch tools to prove concept or to understand issues that have been experienced
Produce samples of specific tools designs for customers to appreciate and understand the concept

Years 1/2 is a combination of off the job training at HWGTA Training Centre as well as training on site with your employer. Years 3/4 based full-time in company developing skills in preparation for the end point assessment to gain your Engineering and Manufacturing Support Technician Level 3 qualification
You will receive monthly visits from your assigned Learning and Development Specialist, who will set you work, monitor your development and wellbeing, and discuss training sessions. They will also prepare you for your End Point Assessment
Additional training for functional skills in English and maths will be undertaken if needed
There is also a five-day teambuilding residential trip that is held in the spring of each year offered to all apprentices on programme

Construction and assembly of laboratory rigs and instrumentation within the Wolfson Centre for consultancy, research and teaching activities
To support users of the test rigs and instrumentation with repair, troubleshooting and advice on modification
