We’re looking for the next generation of engineering talent who want practical experience in a fast-paced environment. You’ll work alongside our highly skilled maintenance engineers shadowing them and learning how we operate a smooth running operation.
The McCain Engineering Apprenticeship Scheme is a four-year multi-skilled programme – available at our sites in Wombourne (near Wolverhampton).
To be considered for this apprenticeship, the following will apply:
Must be 18 or over on commencement of the apprenticeshipWilling to learn new skills and adapt to change
Self-discipline in meeting stretching targets and deadlines
Logical approach to fault-finding
Conscientious
Enthusiasm to learn and to work with others
Punctual
Block release to a technical training centre will begin from Year one and as an apprentice, you will be expected to complete college-based elements in addition to hands-on core modular training.
You’ll work towards a multi-skilled NVQ Level 3, alongside the Mechatronics apprenticeship pathway. The scheme will also offer training in modules bespoke to McCain and the potato industry.
On-site, you’ll benefit from working alongside a team of highly skilled maintenance engineers, assisting on an exciting range of engineering challenges in the factory.

Learning to take on outline and detail design, both individually (under supervision) and as part of a wider team, for projects within certain timescales
Assisting with design support activities during construction
Developing your ability to gather and analyse information and report on findings
Learning how to apply the project requirements to fully meet the client specification in accordance with relevant standards
Being given and increasing amount of responsibility and ownership as your knowledge and skills develop
Learning to carrying out site visits, surveys and inspections
Learning how to prepare and check feasibility studies, inspection, assessment and technical reports and other written documents ensuring compliance with Avove procedures
