Argyle Community Trust are looking for an Apprentice Teaching Assistant who would enjoy helping others to achieve, experience success and fulfil their potential. The apprentice should be willing to develop an understanding of the obstacles and challenges that some people face in gaining employment and develop strategies on how to motivate, build confidence and raise the self-esteem of young people. The ability to engage with and relate to people who have experienced difficulties in gaining employment is crucial.
The position will be based across multiple delivery sites within Plymouth with some of the administrative role completed in the offices at one of our delivery hubs. The role of Apprentice Teaching Assistant will be to assist in the delivery vocational qualifications and a work-readiness programme for a range of young people and adults with varying needs and backgrounds, this may also include working with our Post 16 delivery team in Plymouth assisting with delivery on the BTEC Sport programme. As part of the apprenticeship programme, attendance is required at our Skills Group training centre for one day per week. Whilst at the Skills Group training centre, you will learn the necessary skills and gain experience to help you throughout your role. Part of your training will be knowledge and theory based, whilst the rest will be practical. You will develop your hand skills, carry out brick and block work, learn the correct use of specific tools, carry out pointing and learn mortar ratio mixes under the guidance of your assessor. Learning all these additional skills will benefit you on returning to the employer.

Safety is at the core of our logistics operations. Training:
You will train to achieve the Level 2 LGV Driver apprenticeship standard.
Your training will be divided between in-person sessions at our training provider’s premises in Marsh Barton, Exeter, and onsite at Devonport Royal Dockyard (travel costs to Exeter will be covered by Babcock).
After the initial 13-month training period, you will enter the End Point Assessment (EPA) phase for the final three months of the programme. This phase will include a practical driving assessment, a multiple-choice test, and an interview to demonstrate your skills and competence.
As part of your training, you will obtain both the Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (Driver CPC) and the Category C+E licence, which are legal requirements for driving LGVs professionally.
Training Outcome:
By the end of your apprenticeship, you will be ready to take on the role of Transport Operative within our Transport Department at Devonport Royal Dockyard, with a competitive salary of £30,000.

You will work in a variety of our laboratories across the science programme, from Ecology and Plankton Taxonomy laboratories to our Research Aquarium. Occasional seagoing or fieldwork may be required.
Some of your daily duties will include:
Help the Laboratory Manager and/or Aquarium Manager and other science staff to facilitate the continuity and the smooth running of research projects
Work closely with the Laboratory Manager and other staff to ensure that the research facilities and equipment are functioning correctly
Learn to liaise with company representatives when ordering equipment and supplies to try and obtain the most cost effective and reliable source
Assist with sub-culturing where necessary including periodic microscopic examination and reporting
Help maintain adequate stocks of everyday laboratory and aquarium items
Support with stock and stores including goods in/out
Updating relevant records to order on-line through Market Place, to sending and receiving email messages from suppliers and end users require good working knowledge and understanding of computer usage
Learn how to be responsible for the control of substances hazardous to health (CoSHH)
To be responsible for day-to-day laboratory and aquarium housekeeping duties including sea-water filtration, cleaning tanks, grading, sorting and washing up (e.g. laboratory glass and plastic-ware)
Undertaking routine checks and maintenance of organisms including feeding
Operation of autoclave and other sterilization equipment for making-safe waste for disposal, sterilisation of glass, plastic-ware and media
Preparation and sterilisation of liquid media (for cell culture) and distilled water stocks
Preparation and testing of samples using basic and advanced instrument techniques (training provided)
Accurate data entry and use of IT systems as and when required
Maintaining stocks and reporting shortages. This would include pouring agar plates to replenish stock
Maintaining general lab cleanliness including removal of waste material to appropriate waste bins
Working in accordance with agreed procedures, protocols and the safety management system

Our Commercial team forms and manages the critical relationships and contracts that underpin all the work Babcock undertakes.
On this Higher Level apprenticeship, you'll delve into the complex coordination of multiple stakeholders, both within and across organisations. You’ll work on contract design and management, negotiating the details of the contracts, agreeing on the terms of delivery, and managing the delivery of these contracts.
The 2-year programme involves rotations through different parts of the Commercial team, ensuring you gain a comprehensive understanding of all aspects of the role. Along the way, you’ll develop crucial skills such as:

Training:You'll be based onsite at HM Naval Base Devonport, learning from industry professionals and regularly assessed by our training provider.
On completion of your training programme and the End Point Assessment, you'll earn a nationally recognised apprenticeship certificate as a Level 5 Operations/Departmental Manager.
