NDT Engineering Technician Apprentice
We are currently recruiting for Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Engineering Technician Apprentice’s to work alongside our highly skilled and motivated site NDT team based at Hinkley Point C. Whilst working within the team you will also be completing a Level 2 apprenticeship and studying for three PCN Level 2 Qualifications.
To ensure consideration you will have obtained a minimum of three GCSEs at grade C or above (grade 4 or above in the new grading system), including Maths and English. You will also need to demonstrate good eyesight (Jaeger 1), either aided or unaided.
During the 30 month apprenticeship you will demonstrate competence in this science-based profession that requires competent Engineering Technicians to inspect materials, welds, components and plant to verify their integrity without rendering them unfit for further service.
Main Responsibilities
Attend Workshops and participate in as many learning opportunities as possible. Respecting and contributing toward the Health and Safety Culture.Maintain documented evidence for use in learning portfolio.Invest time and energy into self-study to support company provided learning opportunities. Act with integrity. Good timekeeping, communication and interpersonal skills. Perform duties as assigned by lead Technicians and Management.Flexible to work with other departments to gain knowledge and experience.Writing of NDT reports to a suitable standard detailing all areas of test, restrictions and results.Ensure that all work is performed efficiently and in a timely manner.HSEQ Responsibilities.
It is mandatory that the incumbent is familiar with and follows the Company's Policy for Health, Safety, Environment and Quality and takes an active part in the compliance and improvement of the Management Systems to maintain our system certification. The incumbent must report any accidents, incidents, near misses, actual or potential problems with products, services or systems to the HSEQ Department Manager. The incumbent also has legal responsibilities under country-specific health and safety legislation to follow all Company policies, procedures, guidelines, control measures, signage and permit conditions and to know what to do in an emergency. The incumbent is also responsible for the health and safety arrangements of subordinates (if any) and for any persons visiting them while on the Company premises.

Calibration of digital print machinery, e.g. print head voltages, registration and stitching, machine profiling
Understanding colour matching and colour ways with the help of the Op
Gain an in-depth understanding of Adobe Suite Program such as, Photoshop and Illustrator
Colour matching along matching alongside lead op and pre-press engineer
Diagnose and resolve colour management or printing problems / respond to any system issues including alerts / stops etc
Gaining an understanding of pre-press colour matching with the help of the pre-press engineer
Understanding spectrophotometry and ink densities. General machine maintenance
Operation of UV curing lamps
Ensure all consumables such as inks are replenished as and when required to ensure maximum uptime / output. Understanding digital inkjet systems mechanically and through software
Gaining an understanding of UV ink and coating viscosities and temperatures and how they impact colour and quality
General inspection of product, identifying any issues with the print that could be from the digital print machine
Understanding print faults
Gaining an understanding of the other processes involved in production zone and how all the processes come together to ensure a high-quality print output
Liaise with the team to help resolve/improve any print or colour issues
Role Objective:
Operate equipment to process raw materials into finished products while meeting safety, productivity, quality, cost, and service requirements
Aid and ensure all product are produced at the highest standard in terms of colour and consistency
Demonstrate ability and willingness to perform multiple job functions effectively
Perform manufacturing operations in accordance with SOP and work instructions
Actively support continuous improvement and Lean activities involved with the LS implementation
Operate machine control screens, material handling, and packing & shipping equipment
Perform quality checks and record results
Proactively respond to any quality deviation
Perform operator maintenance and assist with other maintenance activities
To become fully conversant with Adobe Suite programs such as, Illustrator and Photoshop, along with an in depth understanding of image creation, design and colour matching
To become an allrounder within the AST team, through pre-print, print, post print and coating operations
Process orders via computer/manual systems and respond to internal and/or external inquires in a professional manner
Training:
Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship the qualification achieved will be a Level 3 Print Technician
Throughout your time as an apprentice, you will be supported by both your employer and BPIF Training
You will be assigned a training coordinator to ensure that you have the best training available
Training requirements will be discussed at the point of employment to suit both your own and business needs
Training Outcome:
Upon successful completion the apprenticeship will lead to a full-time position

During the apprenticeship you will carry out following activities:
Work on various pumps and associated control gear, 3-phase motors, starters, and controls
Investigating and diagnosing complex faults and carrying out repairs during incidents
Investigating plant failures and carrying out repairs as quickly and efficiently as possible.
Planned preventative and general maintenance of equipment

We work in partnership with Basingstoke College of Technology who deliver the programme, you will be expected to attend the campus in Basingstoke on fortnightly basis with the alternate week being virtual delivery, you may also be expected to attend college on block release, we will support your attendance by paying for your accommodation and travel expenses in line with our business expense policy. As an Electrical Apprentice, you’ll be helping to fault find and find ways to fix all the electrical issues we have on our sites. You’ll be working on electrical equipment which monitors and controls all aspects of Thames Water’s water and wastewater processes, and how they’re performing across the network.
