General duties including:
The Technician will work with the management and delivery team of the organisation to advise on the statutory health, safety and environmental requirements as they affect the company’s operations.
They will assist the management team in ensuring that the legal and company SHE requirements are implemented.
On a daily basis, the SHE Technician will assist to develop, review and check on the implementation of safe systems of work, deliver training (e.g. toolbox talks & inductions), investigate incidents, analyse data and present findings to the management team.
The SHE Technician will engage with all aspects of the organisation to support the embedment of a culture that ensures everyone is able to return to their family and friends unharmed every day whilst also protecting and enhancing the global land, air and water resources for future generations.
This will be achieved by inspiring and influencing others to see the benefit of working responsibly, understanding the legal framework and showing how safety, health and environmental management can enhance operational activities.
Training:Training will be at North Lindsey College, where you will access a wide range of facilities on offer.

As part of our 200-strong In-Service Submarine Engineering Team, you’ll be joining a group of dedicated professionals who support both in-service and build-stage submarines. The work is varied and meaningful, ranging from design investigations and feasibility studies to maintaining the technical records and configuration data that keep each vessel safe and operational.
Collaboration is at the heart of everything we do. Working alongside engineers and technical specialists, you’ll contribute to real projects that combine design, assurance and engineering delivery. Your time will be split between producing and reviewing 2D and 3D Computer-Aided Design (CAD) models, carrying out engineering surveys, and supporting data management and documentation. You may also have opportunities to visit submarines at HM Naval Base Clyde in Scotland, gaining valuable insight into how your work supports the fleet.
As your knowledge and confidence grow, you’ll take on more responsibility in areas such as change control, technical reporting and quality assurance. This Level 2 Engineering Operative apprenticeship will build your engineering skills in one of three trade routes: Electrical, Mechanical, or Fabrication. Supporting our Engineering Fitters, we’ll train you in core engineering skills like hand fitting, health and safety and general maintenance.
You’ll also receive specialised training based on the trade route you’re studying. If you’re in Electrical, this could include maintaining electrical equipment and systems, as well as learning to form and assemble electrical cable enclosures and support systems. For Mechanical, you’ll learn how to maintain mechanical devices and equipment, as well as repair mechanical components to bring them back into working condition. If you’re specialising in Fabrication, your training may involve producing sheet metal components and assemblies, or cutting and shaping materials using thermal cutting equipment. No matter which route you take, you’ll play a vital role in maintaining the Royal Navy’s fleet.
As part of the interview, you will be asked to select your first and second preferred trade area (electrical, mechanical or fabrication) and explain your reasons for choosing it. This helps us understand your interests, motivations, and how your strengths align with the role.
Training:You will work towards obtaining the Level 2 Engineering Operative Apprenticeship standard. The first four months of your apprenticeship will take place at City College Plymouth, learning the fundamentals of engineering, such as basic hand skills and the use of hand and bench tools. From then on, you’ll spend one day a week at the college and four days at Devonport Dockyard, applying your skills on the job. Ongoing weekly attendance at college may be required for tutorial sessions or to complete Functional Skills in Maths and English if you do not already hold GCSE qualifications.
