Generate CNC machine code from CAD models for use on the milling machine
Read engineering drawings and utilize metrology equipment to perform part inspections
Provide support to prototype builds and vehicle installation, including creation and maintenance of build documentation
Coordinate with external venders to undertake routine maintenance activities for workshop tools and equipment
Undertake general administrative tasks to support Operations activities, such as reviewing and updating risk assessments and ensuring the workshop remains in good order
Support the set-up of new work areas by positioning parts, tools, and furniture correctly in the workshop before a build and putting these away once finished
Understand the strict safety requirements for high voltage working and be the second person that must be present when high voltage work is being undertaken
Support the creation and deployment of new operations processes
Identify tooling shortages or replacements and source the tools needed
Work with the technician and engineering team to ensure that right material is on site to produce parts
Alongside the core project work described above, which the Apprentice can make contributions to and learn from, there are numerous non-project tasks essential to the smooth operation of the workshop, including but not limited to:
Arranging workshop maintenance items with external parties.
New equipment:
Preparing for the arrival of new CapEx equipment (CNC lathe, waterjet cutter)
Produce instruction sheets and guides for technicians detailing how to use new equipment safely
Work with engineering to produce documentation on how to utilise and design to in-house capabilities
Work with technicians to recommend tooling acquisitions so that we can use new equipment to more efficiently and quickly meet or exceed project goals
Implementation of new processes in the operations team.
Marrying up drawings, material, tools and instructions to prep jobs for technicians
Provide updates and status to project management and wider team on the production of parts

What else?

VPI Damhead are looking for an apprentice to train alongside our existing, experienced team. As an apprentice you will study a range of programmes working towards a Level 3 Maintenance & Operations Engineering Technician Apprenticeship standard, covering a variety of skills and qualifications while earning a wage and completing invaluable practical skills in industry. You will be working alongside a mentor and assisting the experienced process shift team with the following duties:
Main Duties and responsibilities.
Start-up & shutdown the plant process as per operating procedures
Operating the plant and process within the set production and safety parameters
Take samples as per the sampling schedule and procedure
Complete daily logs and make notes of operational events and communicate to the Shift Team Leader and oncoming shift team
Assist in the return to service of new plant and equipment
Assisting in carrying out permit to work isolations, de-isolations
Report any Health & Safety issues / incidents
Report any Engineering issues
Ensure good housekeeping standards are maintained on plant
Other responsibilities:
Ensure correct stock control of any raw materials used on plant
Ensure control of emergency equipment and PPE in the area
Ensure correct control of any waste streams and assist in the management of the controlled waste zone
Due to Health and Safety requirements for shift working, all apprentices must be 18 years of age by April 2025 when they leave their studies at IPS continue their apprenticeships on site.

The delivery of this Apprenticeship Standard requires a full year off the job training at the
IPS Training centre. In Year 2 the Apprentice moves to day release and will attend the Training Centre one day a week to continue the Technical Certificate, continuing until they are ready for End Point Assessment in Year 3. An RLC or RE Large Goods Vehicle Driver apprentice (Level 2) transports supplies, ammunition and equipment. Daily tasks include daily vehicle checks, route planning, loading/unloading and convey operations.
You will also conduct vehicle maintenance and military logistics while developing teamwork and discipline in operational and peacetime environments.Training:Step 1 - You'll start with your initial military training which will teach you how to be a soldier - this will cover everything from fieldcraft to handling a rifle. If you join as a Junior Soldier (under 17 years and 6 months), you’ll do a 40-week basic military training course at Harrogate. If you join as a Regular Soldier (over 17 years and 6 months), you’ll do the regular 14-week adult basic training.
Step 2 - Next, you will undertake your 15-week Combat Logistician course at the Defence School of Transport in Leconfield. During this, you will earn your Category C+E Driving Licence and study general service driver modules. This training also gives you the opportunity to gain a broader knowledge on the Royal Logistic Corps functions and roles.
Step 3 - You will continue at the Defence School of Transport to complete your 25-day Class 3 Driver course. This will include off road driving, driving different vehicles, hazardous materials (HAZMAT) and basic vehicle maintenance. After this, you will begin an apprenticeship in Driving Goods Vehicles which you will completed alongside your Class 2 Driver course. This takes place in your unit and will take 12-18 months to complete.
Once you reach the rank of Lance Corporal, you are able to take the Class 1 Driver course which takes place over 15 days. On this course, you will learn: fleet management, operational planning and maintenance, supervision and inspecting.
