In the role of a Non-Destructive Testing Engineering Technician Apprentice, you be involved with a range of recognised NDT methods including Ultrasonic Testing, Eddy Current Testing and Penetrant Testing. Our business relies on the accuracy of NDT and therefore the importance of this role cannot be overstated.
This role is wide-ranging and has both practical and theoretical elements. As part of your development to a certified technician, you will be expected to carry out testing, under supervision, as well as completing academic study. Verification of your understanding in the various elements will be assessed by formal practical and written examination.
We will help you develop into a Non-Destructive Testing Technician that delivers safe, capable processes to specified standards.
Specific activities could include:

Training:Control technical support engineer
Year 1 is full-time residential (classroom) training at one of our training provider facilities. During this varied two-year Supply Chain Advanced Apprenticeship programme you will have the opportunity to work in a fast paced environment on business critical projects. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain, refurbish, repair, return, store or dispose of all types of electrical, electronic, and electromechanical equipment within the Positive Solutions Workshop, including stock held on behalf of our customers, to the highest standard and within agreed timescales.
Ensure that all equipment is configured in accordance with work instructions and configuration documentation making sure that it is fully tested, and quality assured to meet the standards expected by the company and is subsequently packed correctly for dispatch.
Ensure quality standards are maintained with commitment to Electronic Static Discharge (ESD) precautions
Accurately complete and maintain all Workshop/Configuration records within an acceptable time scale in a precise, legible manner.
Manage stock: including accurate receipt - booking in stock purchased into the stock management system, regular stock counts in accordance with defined timescales, monitoring usage, ensuring stock rotation principals are employed at all times and that goods are dispatched in a timely and efficient manner.
Monitor and maintain suitable minimum stock levels of all company packaging, including its distribution, and for repaired re-usable stock in line with Field Engineer’s usage
Quarantine and process according to the appropriate work instructions any non conforming items
Accurately pick stock required for configuration and repairs ensuring that the transfer of stock is managed through the company stock management system so that accurate records are maintained.
Communicate efficiently and professionally with colleagues, suppliers, and customers.
Adhere to all operating procedures and work instructions, maintaining a safe working environment and ensuring compliance with BS EN ISO 9001 and 27001.
Work additional hours and accommodate any other duties, as required.

The role of a Steelworker includes working from planned drawings to erect product framework. You will be involved in marking out, cutting and shaping components used in the framework of a BAE Systems product. This involves fabricating various sections as well as smaller steel components.As a Steelworker Apprentice you will be trained to use various types of tools and machinery used in the forming of steel plate. These will range from hand tools such as: scribes, dividers, hammer etc., to large presses and state of the art Computer aided burning machines. Other skills you will be taught in the steelwork environment will include, burning, welding and slinging. Steelworkers progress on to establishing datum points, levels setting key alignment of components during fabrication and construction. Accurate dimensional control is essential. You will use increasing levels of technology which includes theodolites, dumpy levels, laser levels and 3D laser projection from engineering design data".
During your apprenticeship you will spend the first year full time at college. Here you’ll learn the basic skills of using hand tools and machinery together with the Health and Safety requirements in the workplace. You’ll also begin your Level 3 Academic studies. In the second year you will transition to the company's site and be based solely at our SASK facility for approximately 9 months. You will further develop your new skills and be put through a series of phase tests to gain competency of steelwork and the quality required. You will then be placed on a team in one of our fabrication/ manufacturing areas to begin your exit role job training alongside our fully qualified tradespersons. Throughout your 2nd and 3rd years on site you will be attending Furness College on a day release basis to work towards your Level 3 engineering technician standard.
As a Steelworker you will be required to read and understand design drawings. Good hand-eye coordination, and manual/ physical dexterity are also important.
You will also be required to adhere to the safe and appropriate use of tools and safety equipment.Training:An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. The Project Controls Degree Apprenticeship is a 5 year scheme that will expose you to different areas in the business across three world-class programmes, offering real life project controls experience that facilitates your learning and development.
As a Project Controls apprentice you will work towards ensuring that our submarine programmes deliver successfully and safely to time, cost and quality: by critically analysing, interpreting and evaluating technical information to develop coding structures, cost and time objectives, robust recommendations and recovery plans for the project, programme or portfolio manager.
Projects don't come more challenging, pioneering, and critical than ours. Controlling key aspects of a project is a critical element of how we project manage our business and projects.
Our Project Controls apprentices are offered placements that enable you to be fully immersed in roles across our Project Controls community to gain a significant understanding and application of project controls and building your knowledge and skills in aspects such as:
• Risk – Developing an understanding of the principles of risk management, including the considerations needed for mitigating risk, considering project risks and opportunities when integrating into cost and planning processes, undertaking quantitative and qualitative analysis of risk and leading risk reviews
• Estimating – Developing an understanding of the estimation process, preparing estimating frameworks and using this information to estimate project needs and requirements, as well as using an evidence-based approach to estimating for estimate assurance, cost and risk analysis, uncertainties and contingencies
• Planning and Scheduling – Developing an understanding of planning and scheduling techniques, preparing and scheduling frameworks to enable recommendations on milestones and engineering schedules to be made, as well as using an evidence-based approach to create credible, achievable control schedules, including assurance, risk analysis, assumptions and probabilities
• Data Modelling and Forecasting – Developing an understanding of both modelling and statistical analysis techniques in order to identify variations from the baseline, whilst assessing their impacts on the project and making informed recommendations to the influence the project
