We are seeking to employ and train a craft apprentice as a Toolmaker. You will receive broad-based training covering many aspects of Aerospace Manufacture, specialising as a craft apprentice. You can become a Toolmaker.
Job role will include:
Understand mathematical techniques, formula and calculation in a toolmaking environment.
Understand structure, properties and characteristics of common materials used for the manufacture and repair of tooling, moulds, dies, jigs and fixtures.
Understand the safe operation, correct selection and the application of a range of hand tools used for toolmaking and die maintenance, including grinders, drills, stones etc.
Understand the safe operation and operating principles of a range of complex and often state-of-the-art workshop machinery (such as CNC lathes, milling, grinding and erosion machining centres, drilling and welding equipment).
Understand how to set up and operate the machinery/equipment efficiently and effectively.
Understand the principles of how the relevant tools, dies, jigs and fixtures being manufactured/maintained function, the operating sequences, the purpose of the individual components/systems and how they interact.
Understand the application of pneumatics, hydraulics, electrical and electronic systems as applied to various moulding, injection, pressing and similar associated machinery.
Continuous improvements activities.
Apprentices will be required to comply with all ethical, environmental and safety regulations. While onsite apprentices will rotate during year 2 throughout departments to ensure competency in all required skill sets.
Training:
This is a 4 year Level 3 Engineering Technician qualification.
You will be required to attend the training centre, In-Comm Training Services in Telford, TF3 3AJ, full time for the first 12 months to undertake a variety of engineering training and theory work.
Qualifications include;
Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence).
Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence) – Technical Support.
Level 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge).

During 2025 Plessey is offering two Level 4 Higher apprenticeship against the Lead Engineering Maintenance Technician standard.The academic element will be hosted by The Plymouth Engineering Skills Centre on a day release basis (1 day per week).
The apprenticeship consists of the HNC qualification and provides the opportunity to build the Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours (KSBs) specified in the Level 4 Engineering Technician Standard. There is a minimum of 42 month before the KSBs are externally assessed during the Apprenticeship end-point assessment (EPA).

The Engineering, Facilities and Maintenance Manager is responsible for directing all engineering activities and maintaining and upgrading the Site's facilities and production equipment. In addition, this position is responsible for maintaining/advancing a viable and visual Preventative Maintenance Program at the facility, while identifying capital requirements for the annual capital plan. Responsibilities also include developing and assisting in value stream design and implementation of lean principles and tools within the manufacturing environment. This includes, but is not limited to, assisting with value stream mapping, employee training, continuous improvement event facilitation, waste identification and elimination, problem solving (through the scientific method), work area and station design and layout, visual control implementation, material flow, and progress tracking and communication. Lastly, this resource acts as a passionate advocate for a cultural change toward lean thinking throughout the organization.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Partner with LEAN leadership in eliminating unplanned production interruptions. Use DAKOTA as the compliance tool to report incidents, near misses and non-conformances, and to maintain compliance with EH&S. Work with the maintenance crew to implement the needed preventative measures. Recommend design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions. Prepare capital projects for submission to management. Included are costs, schedule, Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), and needed procedures. Serve as lead project engineer for approved capital projects with the goal of on time and on budget completion. Develop and administer a viable and visual Preventative Maintenance Program that reduces downtime and improves overall reliability of production and production supporting machinery. Responsible for identifying capital requirements for the facility's annual capital plan and budget. Direct, review, and approve product design and changes consistent with MOC procedures. Recruit departmental employees; assign, direct, and evaluate their work; and oversee the development and maintenance of staff competence. Analyze annual site utility expenditure and develop plan to optimize plant efficiency to reduce costs (ISO 14001). Perform administrative functions such as reviewing and writing reports, approving expenditures, enforcing rules, and making decisions about the purchase of materials or services. Integrate the plant PHA initiative with the appropriate capital projects. Investigate equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operations and work with the maintenance crew to implement the needed preventative measures. Interface with leadership, operators, and maintenance to develop needed TPM programs. Support SPC, DOE's, and other Quality initiatives. Lead Engineer for the production processes. Develop facility infrastructure upgrade plan.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
B.S. in Mechanical, Chemical or Electrical Engineering.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
At least 1-2 years in a supervisory role. 5-10 years of Facility and Process Engineering experience. Experience managing capital projects required. Experience is Engineering Management. PHA and "Process Safety Management" experience a positive.

Our Distribution System Operator (DSO) is responsible for a number of key outputs to help shape the future development of NGED’s distribution network as we head towards a net zero future. The DSO take a strategic approach to the changes in customers' needs, and use state of the art modelling and innovative solutions (such as flexibility) to ensure that NGED can continue to run an economic, efficient and reliable network for our customers.
Strategic Planners, within the Secondary System Planning Team, are responsible for the wide-scale analysis of NGED’s networks, at voltage levels from 230 to 11,000 volts; the identification of any limitations within these networks; the determination of optimal solutions; and directing the delivery of these solutions ahead of our customers’ need.
Our people in Network Services work across a number of teams to keep the lights on for our customers. They might be helping a customer who has lost supply or supporting a developer building a multi-million pound project.

The role of a Planning & Design Trainee involves detailed technical discussions with customers, architects, public authorities and landowners together with a sound and pragmatic appreciation of complex engineering problems. Applicants must be personable and approachable, with a firm understanding of engineering and financial matters.
The training programme provides on-the-job training and formal courses held in one of our Training Centres at either Taunton or Tipton, over a period of approximately two years (depending on entry level qualifications). Successful candidates will also be expected to study for and achieve a higher-level qualification. The majority of the on-the-job training will take place within local teams, but you may be required to undertake placements at other locations across the National Grid service area, so you need to be flexible and able to travel.
The apprenticeship programme takes around three years to complete, and you’ll spend your first 10 - 12 weeks being inducted onto the programme at one of our Training Centres. You’ll earn while you learn and develop your knowledge, skills and behaviours to become a Network Planner, a higher-level qualification. Some of your activities on-site might look like the below:
Complete scheduled trade maintenance activities as per the maintenance management system
Maintenance to be completed using the company standards and procedures, minimising impact on production, and maximising plant availability
Raise relevant permits within the agreed time frame and generate new work requests to highlight plant and equipment failure
Manage and maintain Trade inventory of critical spares and stock equipment such that maintenance visits can be completed on schedule and equipment down time is minimised
Supporting project activity and working with vendors and sub-contractors as required
Develop and review operational and maintenance procedures
Comply with and pursue requirements of Change Management Policies e.g., Plant Modification Proposals
Employ Perenco Observation Safety Techniques (POST) to report unsafe acts
Training:Our Apprentices will undertake a Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician, Level 3 (A level). This will include a full-time period of practical workshop based ‘off-the-job’ training at HETA in Hull.
You will also begin a technical certificate (depending on your prior attainments) where you will be required to attend HETA one day a week over two academic years. After your initial training at HETA, you will be working towards your End Point Assessment.Training Outcome:By the end of the apprentice programme, you’ll have developed your technical abilities as a qualified engineer, built your networks, and be on your way with further study with a varied career path ahead of you. Global Manufacturing Engineering (GME)
Our Global Manufacturing Engineering team operates on Future Vehicle Programmes across our global Manufacturing & Product Design locations. Join us and you will be responsible for the design, installation and commissioning of manufacturing facilities and processes, to build the modern luxury vehicles of the future. You will be working with stakeholders across our enterprise including Design, Product Engineering, Procurement, Part & Facility Suppliers, and Manufacturing Operations to deliver new products into a complex manufacturing infrastructure.
GME is Seven Technologies that work hand in hand to deliver whole vehicle manufacturing solutions; Stamping, Body, Paint, Trim, Propulsion, Dimensional Systems, Logistics & Construction. If you join GME, you could get involved in activities such as working with digital toolsets and systems to leverage VR and digitalisation to bring products and processes to life, work alongside colleagues in the wider industrial operations chapter (procurement, supply chain & manufacturing) as well as interfacing with the product development teams ensuring the product is designed to meet bill of process standards and requirements and deliver enterprise KPI's on Quality, Cost & Time to Market. Apprentices will also get involved in assessing
feasibility for joining and assembly technologies, ensuring we deliver a capable process into a production facility.
If you enjoy problem solving and being at the heart of making things happen then our GME roles give you the opportunity to work throughout the end-to-end product lifecycle, with multiple stakeholders internally and externally, and managing large capital investment change into our plants. Year 1 – 2
This programme is delivered through a combination of online study, face-to-face lectures, independent learning each week. This gives you the chance to apply your learning from University of Warwick to projects in a real-world environment. You’ll study a range of modules designed to build your essential knowledge, skills and behaviours, with regular process reviews along to way to ensure you’re getting the support you need from your tutors and line manager.
Years 3-4
In years 3 and 4 you will complete modules related to your chosen specialism –Product Design and Development. In your final year, you’ll complete a work-based project as part of your End Point Assessment (EPA). This is an opportunity for you to use the skills and experience you gained throughout your time on the programme and apply them directly to your role.
