Key Responsibilities
The following list is an indication of roles and responsibilities you will be expected to undertake as the Software Design Engineer. The list is not exhaustive and intended as guidance only, but in general you will:
- Proactively collaborate as part of the wider design department to scope befitting technical solutions for projects. This would include hardware specification such as safety devices, communication architectures/protocols etc, where product selection would have direct implications on the software solution.
- Apply commercial awareness when determining solutions suitable to the price point of the project.
- Write and test code for large scale projects (Motion, Robotics, Integrating 3rd Party Equipment, PLC, HMI)
- Author (internal/external) design philosophy documents to support the intended functions of the automated equipment.
- Ensuring all software is written, documented, and controlled in accordance with company procedures and processes.
- Ensure that the solutions determined adhere to all relevant Codes of Practice, Company and Industry Standards.
- Develop and maintain code libraries and standardised practices to deliver commonality and reduce commissioning timelines.
- Review customer project documentation to fully understand project requirements.
- Participate in customer meetings of either existing or potential projects.
- Participate in internal design reviews on existing or potential projects.
- Collaborate with other Mechanical and Electrical teams and community members.
- Develop handover documentation for the commissioning team and assist with fault finding.
The Right Person
The successful Software Design Engineer will possess the following skills
- Degree in relevant engineering discipline or equivalent recognised qualifications.
- Proven electrical, pneumatic and mechanical experience within the automation industry.
- Ability to follow electrical and pneumatic schematic diagrams and drawings.
- Comprehensive knowledge of diagnostics, test and repair of electronic/electrical and mechanical systems.
- Thorough knowledge of safety procedures and applicable regulations and guidelines.
- Programming experience of PLCs/HMIs. Primarily Rockwells suite of automation software, but knowledge of Mitsubishi, Siemens, B&R, and Codesys would be advantageous.
- Knowledge of script-based programming would be an advantage.
- In depth knowledge of Motion Control and 6 Axis Robot systems.
- Experience with robotics, AI and machine learning.
- Solid understanding of computer programming and software development.
- Ability to troubleshoot equipment and perform complex system tests.
- A desire to continually upgrade technical knowledge.
- Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving ability.

Supports the Building Sciences Project Manager with test and balance research, consultation, operations policy generation, and quality issues. Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial engineering 2+ years' experience in manufacturing environment. Six Sigma/lean manufacturing experience. Understanding of process control methods, flowmeters, level monitors, and other process controls within a batch manufacturing process. Ability to read and interpret process drawings (process flow diagrams and P&ID's). PLC with ladder logic analysis. Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills. PC usage with MS Office Suite (AutoCAD experience a plus), strong interpersonal skills, good communication skills both written and verbal.

We are looking for a self-motivated, enthusiastic individual with the desire to work in our business long term as a qualified Catering Service Engineer. Aimed at either new entrants wanting to access the Catering Industry or those with some knowledge and experience who want to build their career as a fully trained Gas Engineer. ;
What will you be doing?
Working towards the Commercial Catering Equipment Technician, Level 3 Apprenticeship
The broad purpose of the occupation is to install, commission, maintain and repair commercial catering equipment, such as combination ovens, fryers, grills and griddles, cooking ranges, dishwashers, microwave ovens etc. Equipment may be gas or electrical and may involve plumbing and electronic controls.
Throughout the duration of the programme, you will be working to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills and qualifications to perform the following duties:
Conduct servicing of commercial catering equipment in line with manufacturers’ specifications and/or legislation
Undertake fault finding and repairs of commercial catering equipment, for example replacing thermostat or pumps; including use of diagnostic equipment
Install and commission a wide range of commercial catering equipment, for example ovens, grills, fryers, dishwashers, water treatment equipment and ancillary equipment e.g., fly killers, water filtration, preparation equipment
Test and undertake quality assurance checks to verify that the commercial catering equipment is working in accordance with its design specification and current regulations including air quality tests
Decommission and remove redundant catering equipment and leave the overall installation in a safe condition
Safely isolate and lock-off of services (gas, water, electricity); for example, cap off gas supplies to prevent possible escape of gas
Plan work schedule and logistics to meet customers’ requirements and priorities, time management
Interpret specifications, drawings and technical information, for example manuals
Conduct or agree risk assessments and apply method statements to maintain safe working environment
Provide information and guidance to end-users on the correct operation and maintenance of commercial catering equipment
Complete documentation (written or digital) associated with the specified job for example, time sheets, maintenance records, written acceptance of work completed, commissioning sheets
Maintain tools, equipment and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including ensuring meters (typically Electric Multi Meter, Ohmmeter, Carbon Dioxide/Monoxide Meter, Flue Gas Analyser – this list is not exhaustive) are in calibrated date
