Our Client, a major Rail, Highways, Power and Tunnels consultancy are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Controls and Communications Engineer (CRE) to provide engineering leadership across the full project lifecycle—from tendering and design through to installation, testing, commissioning, and handover. You will manage Controls and Communications installations across projects, ensuring delivery in line with HSE, programme, quality, compliance, and commercial requirements. You will act as the Communications Responsible Engineer (CRE) on Network Rail Projects and lead multidisciplinary teams, driving engineering excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
* Act as the Communications CRE on Network Rail projects.
* Supervise multidisciplinary engineering teams including engineers, specialists, and BIM/CAD technicians.
* Deliver proficient designs across Control Systems (DCS, SCADA, PLC, BMS) and Telecommunications (PAVA, FTN, GSM-R, CCTV, VOIP, RF Radio, etc.).
* Conduct formal design reviews (CAT2 checks) to ensure safety, buildability, and compliance.
* Undertake HAZID, HAZOP, and HAZCON studies where applicable.
* Manage and maintain design documentation: design registers, drawing registers, RFIs, TQs, MARs, and EWNs.
* Direct liaison with BIM/CAD teams for clash detection and design coordination.
* Attend and oversee FATs, SATs, and other compliance stages.
* Collaborate with installation teams to ensure practical and efficient design implementation.
* Support commercial teams in tracking design changes and valuing work.
* Engage with planning departments to schedule design, installation, and T&C activities.
* Manage subcontractor design and installation packages.
Maintain quality and ensure compliance with VVB and client standards.
Skills and Experience:
* Expertise in Controls and Communications engineering design and delivery.
* Knowledge of electrical installation regulations, BIM, and design modelling standards.
* Proficient use of design tools (Amtech/Trimble, Cymap).
* Advanced skills in MS Office, particularly Excel.
* Experience acting as a Network Rail CRE.
* Seven years' experience in a Senior/Principal Electrical Engineering role.
* Strong understanding of NR 02009, Network Rail and London Underground communications standards.
Familiarity with HAZID/HAZOP/HAZCON methodologies.
Desirable:
* Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, and Revit (or equivalent BIM platforms).
* Previous experience within M&E contractors.
* Previous experience as a CEM (Contractors Engineering Manager).
Qualifications:
* HND in a relevant Engineering discipline.
* Chartered Engineer (CEng) registration.
* Membership of a recognised institution (CIBSE/IET).
* Valid CSCS Card (AQP or PQP minimum).
* Full UK driver’s license.
Desired:
* Master's degree in Engineering.
* Project Management qualifications (APM, PRINCE2, etc.).
* HSE training (NEBOSH Construction Certificate, SMSTS).

Senior Mechanical Engineer – Biotech Mechatronics – Cambridge
A spin-out Biotech company, based in Cambridge, is currently hiring several Senior Mechanical Engineers to join them and help accelerate the proof of concept, design, development, building, and testing of a novel life-saving biotech manufacturing device.
Your focus will be accelerating the proof of concept, design, development, building, and testing of the hardware of this new biotech device, collaborating with some excellent Medical Devices Physicists, Scientists, Electronics Engineers, and Design Engineers.
This role involves working on the design and development of this biotech manufacturing device, using 3D CAD. Therefore, specific CAD experience will be essential, ideally SOLIDWORKS.
We need senior-level candidates, someone who has worked on mechatronics, automation, robotics, precision devices or another complex electro-mechanical technology.
Due to the size of this company, you will be exposure to other areas of the business, including third-party meetings and attending Biotech, Medical Devices and Science conferences and trade shows. Consequently, it would be ideal if you have previously worked for a start-up/scale-up company or worked for a Medical Devices/Biotech/Scientific Design Consultancy and know what it’s like to wear multiple hats when needed. GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To support the Engineering team in the preparation of drawings, schedules, and design documents for HVAC restoration projects. The Mechanical Drafter translates field data and engineering input into accurate drawings, helping to develop drafting standards, templates, and tools that improve project delivery and efficiency.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: List the job's essential or principal functions and responsibilities. Include all critical aspects of the job -- whether performed daily, weekly, monthly, or annually; and any that occur at irregular intervals.
Supports the Design Engineer in the production of mechanical engineering drawings for HVAC restoration projects according to established standards for clarity, accuracy, and consistency. Reads and interprets technical drawings, schematics, field sketches, test and balance data, and engineer input to generate construction drawings and project schedules. Draft plans, details, and schedules, including fan arrays, equipment layouts, responsibility matrices, and other project-specific deliverables. Creates, maintains, and improves drafting resources such as CAD blocks, templates, title blocks, sheet setups, and detail libraries. Revises drawings based on feedback from engineers, project managers, and clients. Supports drafting automation efforts, including data-linked schedules and fillable data plates for air handler restorations. Incorporates applicable codes and standards (ASHRAE, NCS, etc.) into drafting practices. Coordinates with Field Engineers to clarify and standardize field sketch requirements. Organizes and manages digital project files across platforms (SharePoint, Bluebeam, Smartsheet) to support consistent project delivery. Completes assigned drafting tasks on multiple projects simultaneously within required deadlines.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: List the licenses, certificates, and registrations required to perform the essential duties.
Associate's degree in Computer-Aided Drafting or similar (preferred). Industry certifications in drafting, AutoCAD, or Revit (preferred but not required). Valid driver's license and ability to travel occasionally to project sites. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1-3 years of CAD production experience in the design or construction industry (or equivalent academic training). Experience with construction drafting in AutoCAD; Autodesk Revit experience preferred. Basic knowledge of HVAC systems and mechanical components. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook). Familiarity with collaboration tools such as Bluebeam, SharePoint, or Smartsheet is preferred. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
