Electronics Support Engineer

A new opportunity has arisen for an Electronics Support Engineer to join a growing electronics manufacturing team in Farnborough. This role is ideal for someone with strong practical electronics experience who enjoys a mix of hands-on problem solving, technical support, and working closely with customers and production teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Support quotation activities by reviewing RFQs and drawings, preparing costed quotations and bills of materials for electronic and cable assemblies, and identifying suitable alternative components for obsolete or long-lead parts (including ERP data entry).
- Provide day-to-day technical support to resolve documentation and manufacturing issues within the Electronics Workshop and across the wider business.
- Assist with testing, fault-finding and inspection of assemblies to meet customer requirements, drawings and specifications (typically to IPC-610/620 Class 2 or 3).
- Monitor departmental workload, flag resourcing issues in advance and support efficient planning of tasks.

As part of our 200-strong In-Service Submarine Engineering Team, you’ll be joining a group of dedicated professionals who support both in-service and build-stage submarines. The work is varied and meaningful, ranging from design investigations and feasibility studies to maintaining the technical records and configuration data that keep each vessel safe and operational.

With a mixture of both classroom and on-the-job training, you will be involved in delivering opportunities, solutions and benefits to the GKN operations site based on data driven analysis and the ability to understand complex situations. This will require a great deal of adaptability and flexibility. Your first year will be spent at CECAMM, the Isle of Wight College's Centre of Excellence for Composites, Advanced Manufacturing and Marine where you will undertake a Level 2 NVQ in Engineering and the first year of your Level 3 BTEC or Level 4 HNC in Engineering, depending on which level you join at. Your second year will be completed as day release in Year two. Years two to four will be spent rotating through different engineering areas of the business (including design, stress, manufacturing, Industrialisation and quality engineering) gaining technical experience and expanding your knowledge.

Under the supervision of highly skilled Production technicians, you will become competent in the following:
Technical understanding of machine tools
Technical understanding of fitting and assembly skills
Ability to use electrical design CAD packages
Support test activities and implement test solutions
Depending on your skills, preference and potential you will specialise in one or more of these disciplines: Mechanical or Electrical/electronics.
You may be asked to undertake tasks which requires you to develop knowledge across multiple disciplines so that you are able to play a key role in the integration and testing of our world leading products.Training:
Upon completion of your apprenticeship, you will obtain a Engineering and manufacturing support technician Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) with Yeovil College

AV Design Engineer – Are you in search of a new role where you will have the opportunity to be part of a growing team helping to win and deliver large scale new AV projects. You will have 6years of corporate av experience and come with a tremendously good eye for detail and be able to create 1st class technical AV presales documentation. You will have a good understanding of costing and timescales and your docs will need to be clear and concise as they will be an important part of winning the BID process.
Responsibilities.
Meeting with the client and sales team, developing an understanding of client’s requirements.
Undertake detailed site surveys
Producing a scope of work, and a list of dependencies that the client agrees to and signs off against.
Producing the Bill of Materials and developing the quote ready for the sales team.
Producing conceptual system schematics, AV Positional Layout Drawings and any other additional drawings necessary for the successful delivery of a project.
Once appointed, handing the project over to the active design and project management team.
Supporting ‘mid-project’ variation documentation, and records.
Specialist Drawings As required for custom production work.
Co-ordinating the drawing development against Site Survey Results and Sales & Handover information including Scope of Works, M&E Requirements, Method Statements & Risk Assessments.
Providing design support to the sales team on tender proposals, raising RFI’s, any other supporting documentation required, and possible post bid meeting attendance.
Occasional site attendance for necessary project meetings.
Working alongside the sales team to assist in producing accurate bills of material on both tender responses and primarily Design & Build projects.
Monitoring industry product trends, changes and integration challenges as they develop.
