• Pre- production: Inspect the mould on the bench, clean mould faces and outside surfaces, check the mould date clock is current for the production year, grease guide pillars and check side slides ( if present) and ejection system actions for smooth movement, if actions are stiff / tight, dismantle, clean, grease and reassemble, check water circuits are clear. Fill out tool history with actions taken recorded on the database.
• Post -production: The mould tool may be sent to the toolroom at the discretion of the mould shop Manager or setter, this may be due to problems with the mould, either dirty mould, water flow / cooling issues, broken components, hot runner issues etc., a tool movement form will be present with the mould setting out issues plus verbal explanations of issues. A plan of action is set in place to rectify faults which may involve a full dismantle of the mould.( work carried out recorded on the data base)
• Production breakdown: Usually carried out in the press, could be seized side slide / cooling system circuit blocked /restricted/ trapped moulding, work is carried out to rectify the issue in the press, if unsuccessful the mould may come into the toolroom to be worked on in the workshop as a priority. As the role progresses you will become involved in testing, use of power tools and have the opportunity to see the job through by assisting on customer sites around the UK, with installation and commissioning.
You will be trained to read and interpret engineering data, worksheets and drawings in addition to working to documentation such as method statements, HS&E requirements to ensure safe systems of work.

Following successful completion of the apprenticeship there could be the opportunity to gain further qualifications, in a supportive environment.
The further qualifications are dependent upon the route both the candidate and the business see their career going. Duties, including but not limited to:
Interpretating specifications and technical drawings to understand fabrication requirements

Welding metal parts and structures using various welding techniques, including MIG (Metal Inert Gas), TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas), and stick welding
Conducting fit-up and alignment of fabricated parts to ensure accurate assembly
