In house the apprentice will spend a month each with the maintenance engineers in the Heavy Forge, Machine Shop and Die-Plant. After that they will have 4 weeks working within each department on the operations team, so they get a good working knowledge of how each machine should operate. Example 4 weeks in the Heavy Forge with the operators understanding how 9 Press should operate. They will then spend 5 months with the Maintenance Engineers in the Heavy Forge learning how to service and repair the equipment within that department. Then the same in the Machine Shop and the Die-Plant. A month will be spent in the Test House, the estimating department, the quality department and the production control department
At the end of this, the apprentice should have a good working knowledge of Somers Forge from a customer enquire through production, inspection and despatch to the customer
The first 2 years will be general maintenance engineering with the second 2 years being either HNC or HND

Typical day to day duties will include:
Ensuring all tasks are completed to agreed deadlines
Work efficiently and effectively
Ensure effective communication with the customer
To collate and scan all delivery notes into the Navision system so that proof of deliveries can be provided to any customer requesting one
Ensure that all delivery notes are filed correctly
Contact customers on a weekly basis and establish how many stillages require collection and update the transport team
Filing of sales orders
Issuing collection note paperwork
Raising cases on CRM system
Maintenance of filing systems
Checking and processing sales orders
Assisting the department with scanning of documents
Admin support as and when required both the Customer Service
Team and Credit Control Department

This is a Customer Service Level 3 apprenticeship which is delivered over a 15 - month period

As part of team, you will be supplied with a documentation pack, material, and a machining centre. You will be responsible for interpreting the job requirements, planning of the job (how to present / hold the work, the tools & tips required), the execution (speeds / feeds) & inspection measurement.
